In regard to my last post about travelling my 18 month old appy to Devon. Ive decided to travel him on a straw bed loose without a partition.

BUT... should i boot up? or just leave him naked as he is?

Probably get shot down for this one but I don't use boots on youngsters - IMO it just gives them something else to worry/panic/get caught in.

I travel mine loose with a full breeching bar at the front. I am lucky enough to have a trailer cam and they seem to find their feet very quickly and for some reason seem to like travelling backwards!

Good Luck!

I'm (hopefully - providing I can load her) traveling my yearling tomorrow, she'll be bootless and will have the partition up as she will be in with another horse.

The most likely injury is him stepping on his coronary band with the opposite hoof/hind hoof so I'd put overreach boots on all four feet. Apart from that I wouldn't boot up.

I would use a tail guard though!
