Trimming to these x rays.

Sorry to hear this news YCBM. Hopefully he will strengthen up.

Work was always the glue that kept Bailey together so I understand what you mean. Maybe bute to keep him comfortable and make a decision in a couple of months. I think he might thrive in a retirement situation as he will be more stimulated and eager to play with other horses and hopefully build some muscle strength.

Just set a time frame and see how you get on.

i'm so saddened for you and ludo , ycbm, as errin has said its desperately unfair. what a testament of true friendship and ownership, though, how you have stood by him and not pushed him through anything. you truly know him inside and out and the decisions you make are so kind and logical, because you value ludo so much. if only all owners were like you.
always a coffee and pm away xx

I'm really sorry to hear this.

It may not be enough for Ludo, and it may not be what you can do with him, but walking in hand over a few ground poles (in just a headcollar and lunge line plus maybe a walker rug) a few times a week keeps my motley wonky crew muscled up, loosened up and ticking over. 10 - 25 mins per session, with 2 long fully retired neds and one (fingers crossed) about to come back into light ridden hacking work.

I can really tell the adverse difference in them if for any reason I stop doing this for a while, such during my post Covid recovery.

I'm so sorry to read this, how heartbreaking. Hoping that once he's out on the field in retirement he will find an equilibrium ❤

Oh I am so sorry to read this. Until recently, I’ve enjoyed your journey with him. But to watch a young horse deteriorate in front of you is so, so hard.

He fell on his hooves with you, and your determination to do the right thing for him no matter what it costs you shines through.
