My TB normally goes out in the field with nothing on his legs but since he had a McTimmeny treatment which worked on his pelvis he keeps coming in with cuts on the inside of his hind legs. I'm assuming it's now he's using himself slightly differently, although it could be a coincidence on the timing of course.

Can anyone recommend some boots I can put on him when out in the field as I want to show him this year. He goes out for a good 12 hours a day so i think I need something that will breathe. I have some WoofWear brushing boots and some Premier Equine sports boots already but I'm not sure if either of these will be the best option? Plus if my friend puts him out I daren't let her put the sports boots on again! They end up on the wrong legs and literally around his pasterns with him tripping over as she just doesn't seem to be able to put them on correctly! We have quite sandy soil so luckily not too much mud so I'm not too worried about mud getting under them and rubbing, more about his legs getting hot as he'll have to wear them for several hours.

I always recommend the Westroppe turnout ones which are very strong and in fact we hack in them and then turnout.
I think your friend would manage them , I am sure your friend wouldn't manage the equilibrum ones which are very good but quite hard to put on correctly [just bought some to try]

we've always used Sportabac. Have lasted for ages!!

they also keep legs reasonably dry, but we then put on stable chaps to help dry his legs, and obviusly don't put on wet boots again in the morning. that's why we have a few pairs, so that we can rotate them!

I have the Sportabac ones too...although I have used DH own version which were very good.

I put them on my skinny-legged accident prone lad for winter turnout, plus I do hack out in them also....they also keep his legs warm and (relatively) clean

Prefer Equilibrium (hardy chaps version) to the sportabac ones. Have lasted much much longer, we found the neoprene started to disintegrate in the wet with the sportabacs and they were easy for horse to pull apart with teeth.

not sure about your friend though.

We have 2 pairs so can rotate

I also am another one who uses spatabac turnout socks on my mudfever and accident prone mare. She put her legs through a wire fence the other week and they deffinatly saved me a vet bill, great protection!
