Hi all,

In serious need of some serious help... well and truley lost the plot. Horse is recovering from a nasty ligament injury. Last scan revealed fantastic healing which means he can now go out in small bit of field. Vet said it's important that he's out for a few hours a day to keep the leg moving. Sounded fantastic....

Until turnout began, I have tried everything.... grazing him on a lunge line for half an hour and slowly releasing him, turning out at different times a day, giving some sedalin before turnout even tried leaving him for 5 minuets to get it out of his system but he's literally completely bonkers. He's on a calmer and in hand walked, today was the final straw. Came in with a red hot leg after going straight through the fence.

Totally run out of ideas ... I don't want to ruin all of the good healing but at some point he needs to go out.

I could cry. I'm debating taking the sedation myself haha!

maybe give him a feed it the field to distract him, by then the amazingness of being in the field might have worn off, or some field toys

I'll give the feed a go tomorrow, thank you. I'm terrified now that he's going to hurt himself. He's absolutely nuts !

If I were you, I'd get the vet out to sedate properly, and then leave him out 24/7, so you don't have to go through the daily excitement about going out thing. That's the only thing that worked for my horse

This has been discussed with my vet, only thing is he has horrendous sweet itch, despite being rugged up in a very good rug, the midges drive him insane after a few hours. He's normally turned out just over night which he's fine with and it's taken us years to find this option that works best for him. But also at the moment none of the horses are living out and he wouldn't stay out alone. I feel he just wants to cause me worry and stress haha

I did this with the last 2 that I knew would not cope with the excitement of going out each day, after the initial running about, despite being fairly well sedated, they were both left out 24/7 and settled down really well, both recovered with no further injury which I think would have happened if they were exploding every day, not to mention that I was at risk getting them out safely.
