Tweseldown Roll Call

I'm there on Saturday, section P dressage just before 12.30 so quite a leisurely start for first event of the season.
Shame the weather doesn't look like its going to be as nice as the last few days.

You lucky thing. Im in ther same section as you with a 9.06 dressage time! Im walking the course tom at 6am before work to giveme a little extra time on the day!!

Just got back from walking course - pack big studs folks!

I saw that Laura Collett has tweeted that Rayef won't be jumping because the ground is too boggy.

I'm really suprised - would have thought the ground would be great after a week or so of nice weather and it being so sandy at Tweseldown.

Me too! I was very surprised. It's sadly the downside of using the racetrack as its turf rather than the sandy tracks so has got quite damaged quite quickly. The SJ was getting very poached too. Such a shame, the weather had been so lovely earlier this week :(

Hope the ground isn't too bad by Sunday. First run post tendon injury does not want to be in a bog. Fortunately 90 course mostly uses the sandy bits not the racecourse.

I am beyond jealous of all of you who are competing. Will be wandering over to spectate Fri and Sat and looking out for HHO'ers.

Good luck and have fun everyone :)

I do feel rather lucky. What was the course like squizz22? Where are you aiming for next?

Sorry can't quote as on my phone

Current fence judging at tweseldown and would strongly recommend big studs/ staying at home!! Lots of withdrawals already today. although 90/100 are mainly running on the sandy part of the xc course i don't see how the Dressage and sj arenas are doing to stand up to another 3 days. honestly haven't seen it as boggy and disgusting as it is at the moment and I've been coming here quite a few years :-(

Also sat in my car fence judging and having driven past the sj arena, would not be happy jumping on this ground.

You know there have been lots of withdrawals when you get excited by a horse appearing in the warm up!

ahhhh.... lots of tweets from riders going home as its too boggy or fed up supporters who are getting soaked in the rain!

and btw am truly blonde. We are supposed to be there tomorrow to watch, not Sunday. Friend thinks it is hysterical that I can't even get the first event date right!

Just heard from a friend who is meant to be doing the novice today. Only saw 5 horses going round in the hour they took to walk the course. Not looking hopeful for saturday or sunday.:(

just got home after watching friends run. Dressage arenas getting very cut up, SJ warm up looks horrible and SJ itself seems either to jump well or really badly - lots of horses just not wanting to play..... Quite a few riders with the same thought too. Feedback from friend after great xc round was that it was very wet but not holding, so just sloshing through it. As already said 90/100 uses less of the racetrack so not so bad but SJ would be my concern, and dressage (warm up resembles the Somme already!).

I was one of those who withdrew before cross country! My horse is far far too precious to risk on such revolting ground. The show jumping warm up is horrific, and the arena is poached and holding. Interestingly, one of my friends who ran cross country described it as holding so different POV from MCTM's friend. There is always another day, although Murphy neighed his head off the whole way home in outrage at not running xc! Roll on goring, and some sunshine

The fall is at a spooky fence that causes stops in good conditions so don't think its directly attributable to ground in this case

Apologies, I didn't mean to imply that it was. Falls in BE, as we know are ten a penny.

But the photo's of the ground are shocking. Surely it is getting to the point that the ground is going to increase injury risk to horse, raise the liklihood of a serious fall etc. Not to mention access for emergency vehicles.

Thanks Molly. That's quite a strong coffin so not surprised its caught a few out. Hope horse and rider are ok, and that everyone gets home safe and sound and the right decision is made re the rest of the weekend

What a shame, really hope this doesn't mean another wet season :(

Also a heads up for anyone going tomorrow taken from BE

ROAD CLOSURE Be aware!: we are told that the Aldershot - Tweseldown Rd will be closed on Sat 9 March from 1000 - 1400 to accommodate a military race. Diversion signage will not be available.

From what i hear (wasn't within sight so can't say first hand!) a certain pink point 2 was involved. rider conscious etc but possibly sore ribs tomorrow
