I've just recieved a letter from a certain young rider, two pages long, about how wonder full she is, and that she has FIVE LESSONS A DAY, and that for a small cost to me i should send Ernie to her for her to do young riders on!!!!

I shall write back saying that at a large cost to her, she's more than welcome to him!!

cheaky !!!

sorry, fairly pointless post.. but it made me laugh!!!

LMAO!!!!

It wouldnt be the same one who tried this before would it? I think you need to PM me

I would be exactly the same one!! only the letter is writen by the mum
ooo.gif
my mum would never do anything like that for me!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Jesus, what is that girl on?!!
Well you know the story of my connection with her. Its just ludicrous, either they are receiving very bad advice or they are just incredibly up themselves

Ooooohhhh who is it lol.

Why would you pay for someone to ride your horse at the same level you are
confused.gif
And how is she managing to have five lessons a day?

She's based with a well known trainer. 5 lessons a day dont make her a fantastic rider

How wonderful to be so self assured like that! What on earth are these people on, the mother is obviously just as bonkers as the daughter!!

Perhaps you could send her a photo of your pushbike and tell her for a very large sum of money you may let her ride that for you!!!

Surely 5 lessons a day would completely remove your ability to figure things our for yourself?
confused.gif

Or I am just jealous that I would never have the time, never mind the money, to have 5 lessons a day?

You're absolutely right. I think there is definitely a limit to how much teching you have before you become over-trained and unable to think for yourself

Jealous until I actually think about it - 5 lessons a day would be a nightmare - how on earth could you take anything in?

I know this well having had the luxury of a few lessons in a short space of time recently and really appreciating how easy it all is when someone's "holding your hand" while you do it. Generally my finances have allowed me to afford about 5 a year, so the concept of 5 a day is completely alien to me!

Exactly! I could take it in but probably only retain about 10%, in which case what a waste of money that the other 90% gets lost in my tiny, weeny brain.

It's a very american concept isn't it? They have a very trainer-based focus. It's certainly not the norm here!

Was this letter obviously written to lots of people with just the horse's name replaced in each letter, or were you singled out for special treatment MDM?!

not sure, as it was a letter obviously typed up on the computer at home, it would be easy enough to just change the name each time.. but other things tell me it might just of been a one off...

slightly regret posting this now, as don't think it's fair of me to say who it is, so would rather people didn't know...

Ooooops oh well..

re. the 5 lessons a day.. how would you actually learn anything.. surely you'd set out on the XC course, and feel lost as no one would be there to tell you what to do!!!
strange!!

Every week she has an advert in H&H asking for rides! I know someone who had their horse for sale and she rang up asking if they would consider loaning it!

Quick reply

Surely if she's based somewhere and can afford 5 lessons a day, she (or connections) can afford to buy her a horse!!! Why do some of these young riders expect to be given horses - what's wrong with buying your own and coming up the grades together - rather than getting it handed to you on a plate!! They need to prove themselves before getting lots of good rides given to them...

If you look at some of our top riders WFP, Mary King, Daisy Dick, Pippa Funnell to name a few - they bring most of their horses on from scratch. Yes they do take on advanced horses, but most of them have with with them since novice level or younger. Plus if you think back to when the likes of WFP, PF, Tina Cook etc were in juniors and young riders they usually took these horses on from novice up to the medals - and onto Badminton as well! And it was very rare to see the likes of former stars - Ginny Leng or Lucinda Green riding something they hadn't started off

Sorry rant over!!!

If she's been having 5 lessons a day for a long time & still thinking of carrying on with them. I think it would be time to change trainer & actually learn!!!

Unfortunately the pressures of YRs means you have either to have an exceptional horse you have bought on yourself or you buy one. This particular rider has a very useful horse of their own and I do think its exceptionally cheeky as they only need to look up the horses results to see that MDM is doing a good job with Ernie. In fact I would find it particularly irritating.
Pippa Funnell had a good start to eventing having Ruth Mcmullen as a mentor, WFP comes from a very horsey/priviledged background as does DD and TC. It only takes one good horse to make your name but they do tend to get made rather than bought - who had heard of Sharon Hunt a year ago?

Ok.. this is going to be my reply.. (by the way, said letter has made me chuckly all afternoon.. in it she actually calles herself the 'chosen' one [no joke])

Dear ...

If the "chosen" one wishes to play with my pony, then the "chosen" one will have to buy/pay for said pony.. If however he is out of your price range, i have this very nice 5yr old that might be more suitable (will include pic of Socks)

haha.. something like that anyway...

I guess there is a lot more pressure to make the team in your first year at that level and get a few years/more experience at that level etc rather than making your horse and making it in the final year. Which means that unless you are lucky enough to have a couple of horses to bring on alongside your ponies, you aren't going to make Junior/YR teams straight away, unless you buy/get the ride on a made horse. Plus the financial and training/support rewards seem to be higher now with Lottery Funding etc etc.

There's always been money in the sport and people from very horsey backgrounds who have ridden since they could walk (or sometimes before)!!. Guess this will never change - I think we'll see the two young Fox-Pitt's, Mary King's daughter, and other children of our current top riders' on the teams of the future!

I think that the training and support seems to be far more accessible to all now and training clinics/courses are far more frequent now (which is definitely a good thing, and I wish I'd had greater access to it when I was eventing).

At the end of the day it comes down to talent, good horses and good luck (and either very deep pockets or very good owners to make it)!

Plus being very good at marketing yourself to attract potential owners and sponsors!

With a very slight change of subject - am I right in thinking that Juniors european's are now at 1star level, and YR's at 2star or have I misread that? I have a feeling they changed it from 2star for Juniors and 3star for YR's a few years ago (or have I got that wrong??)

I like it!!! But how the hell can someone describe themselves as the "Chosen" one....?????? Talented with proven results - yes, but the Chosen one???!!! I think she needs a new marketing/PR consultant!!!

By the way did she say what a "small cost to you" would be?? I'm guessing that its at least full livery fees (not much change out of £75 plus a week then) and entry fees!! Not exactly small costs I would say.

Far cheaper and more satisfying to do it yourself!! Joking aside, good luck for your next competitions with Ernie - when are you next out?

No I could not bare to see her on Socks. Please send a picture of a donkey it would amuse me so much when they opened the letter and saw a donkey.
Chosen one what a load of crap. Thats it I am going to fire off letters to everyone now!
Dear Daisy Dick,
It has come to my attention that Spring Along has the greatest desire to be partnered by me. I am an amazing rider and currently have 11 riding lessons a day at clippity clop riding school. If you would like to see evidence I enclose photos.
Many Thanks
Lec

I am sorry to say but I feel the way you are talking about her is not on.

She is trying her best to attain rides for her future and all that can be done is smirk?
frown.gif

As mentioned above some top riders were lucky to have a connection which helped them along and thankfully they found somebody who understood how hard it is to fund an eventing career and not just laughed and chuckled at them.

I wish her the best and hope that she finds her own supporter soon.

There is working hard to attain rides and their is taking the piss. As mentioned before MDM is doing very well with the horse and it does not take a genius to see that if they checked his results for the season. This YR has had some ok horses that I would give my teeth to ride but she cannot get on with them - so what does that say? I am all for hard work and producing horses and selling them to buy a better one. There are several horses - quite good ones that recently have been avaliable for loan (Cottage Craft Spirals) so there is opportunity but writing to someone like that?
