After the TB vetting debarcle which has left me really down and horseless as of the weekend I think I shall revert back to natives (with my budget now crushed after vetting, livery bills etc). What do you all think of the following two - feel free to be brutally honest as I need confo critique if at all poss. I'm tall so hopefully these look pretty deep girthed:

Thanks I really appreciate it!

I like the coloured

Then again I love coloureds..

Hi, both sound ok to me and reasonably priced. How tall actually are you, cos they're really not that big, and don't look particularly deep girthed to me.

If I had to pick I personally would go for Puzzle (first ad), mainly cos I LOVE coloureds but also because he sounds a bit more established, though to be fair the other may just be in need of a more confident rider......

Good luck and keep us posted..............................

I'm 5ft 7 and a bit (haha the bit matters). Not TOO heavy tho so I think I'd be ok - if anything I think Maverick has a deeper girth but hard to tell without being on them. Does anyone think the coloured has a funny neck or is that just the angle of the camera?

Me too! I have a 14.3hh and a 13.3hh....never have one you can't climb back on if you fall off, thats what I think!

Haha indeed - at least I can get off and on easily to do gates and less far too fall!

I'd personally look for something at least 15hh, i don't ride my 14hh pony anymore, i'm 5ft4 and 9 and 1/2 stones, with the weight of tack i'd squish her, she is a little TBx though.

I'd definately go for something a bit bigger than 14.2 and superstar I agree you look like you've got a really long body in that pic although he takes your leg really well! Lovely boy though

Are you sure a native is definitely what you want though, not trying to confuse matters but don't give up and go for second best just because you have had a failed vetting(s).

Not going to ask you how old yo are but age and height of the pony will effect you if you are wanting to compete.

You need to ask yourself why you were looking at the type of horses you looking at before (I'm presuming larger breeds over 14.3 etc like TB's and lighter part breeds etc).

Only reason I'm saying this is you need to be happy and 100% that your neddy is exactly what you want now...and what you will want in the near future, otherwise you'll be back to square one again, saving up for another couple or months for example rather than buying something now just because your horseless.

Hope that makes sense, just wanted you to look at the whole picture before you get carried away horsey shopping.

What ever you choose, good luck in finding your next partner.

Wow he is so stunning XSuperStar!! Fells are beautiful.

I'm nearly 24 so happy with my low level competing ie: 3ft and under SJ and prelim/novice dressage for now and the future. I have always had natives (connies) but for some reason a TB took my eye and was a lovely calm ride (until he came home!) Thats why I decided to go back to looking at a native type - I wouldn't be adverse to a native x to get the height or a chunkier ID type. You have very sensible advice Kenzo, I am not going to rush into anything now, just having a little look round to see what there is. I'm just thinking perhaps I should stick to the native types I know and love!

Well in that case a native will tick all your boxes then, you cant beat what natives this country has to offer and are all capable of doing almost everything....well mabe not a shetty lol

Yes adults (even tallish ones) can look perfectly good on a native, as I tell many people I looked far better on my other pony (14.1 cob) than I did on my 16.2 TB and I'm 5'6'' so dont worry about that.

Of the two, I think the coloured has a funny neck - looks like she can set it against you and be strong.

Although, I have decided my next purchase will be a fell - so I say get the loan pony!

I love tb x natives as I think you get the best of both worlds - pony brain and toughness and tb agility. The first horse I had on long term loan was tb x highland and he was a cracking fun little horse, incredibly intelligent and the kindest boy I've ever come across. He's now doing lead rein duty with a family aged 27!

Definately worth looking to see what's around.

Out of the 2 you've posted, I think the bay looks more solid. The coloured is lovely but if you're tall you might look a bit big on her.

I far and above prefer the bay personally.

I had a TB x Connie once, who was just a dream.....might be one to consider breed/type wise.

I don't like the coloured very much - it's not a flattering photo and it looks like it's straight behind and pulls like a train. Out of the two I'd go for the NF.

I agree go for something a tad bigger, a larger Sec D poss?
