Type/breed, what do you prefer?

Those would be Particia Leitch's Jinny at Finmory books. She is single-handedly responsible for a whole generation of young girls desperate to own a chestnut Arab :p

HA HA my first horse was a chestnut arab (with a smidge of welsh D) She was heartbreakingly pretty and such fun. I've always had a soft spot for arabs.

I tend to go for type rather than specific breeds. I like short coupled bouncy type horses, not so light that they look like they'll break but not heavy either, so the light side of middle weight I guess. My current boy is a connie with a touch of ID but he's connie natured (a 15.2 pony really) and huge fun. I like bright intelligent pony type horses with character and prefer sharp (but no dangerously so). I've owned also a couple of ISH's. I'd definitely go for a connie or connie/tb cross nice arab/welsh cross if I was to get another horse. I do like a nice sporty welsh D too.

I used to ride a 16.3 chestnut hanoverian, beautiful horse and very much my type of horse. I now have a 14.2 blue and white cob cross trotter, not my type at all but wouldn't change him for anything now
Funny what we end up with

I love my Connie - beautiful inside and out. A total joy and I love him to bits!

If I had to have another though it would be a Gypsy Vanner purely for the look :D

Colour, I'm not fussed. Breed - something reasonably substantial with a leg in each corner, sure footed and honest as the day is long. Breed unimportant! I am more likely to go on the temperament before the breed. :)

I'm not really a 'breed' person. I'd rather have a nice cross bred (arab x native, or Connemara x). Height is quite important - nothing more than 15.2. Colour I don't really mind - said I would never have a grey, ended up with one and she is gorgeous even when muddy. Good feet - VERY important, as is decent conformation. And - call me shallow - I do like them to have a pretty head.
I don't like huge horses, lots of feather, roman noses, upsidedown necks or spindly legs.

It's got to have some TB in it but not full TB, middle weight, lovely head with a decent length of neck, spark but not fire with manners and a desire to go forward. Colour wise, I love a grey and loathe most coloureds but present horse is coloured and I adore him but he doesn't have much white. But actually, i could love any horse if he did the job I wanted and was happy doing it!

proper old fashioned ID or a good HW hunter type. Not overly fussed about colour, although I always seem to end up with a bay mare :)

I like lighter built horses for myself- i have no idea of my mares breeding (suspect welsh x tb), but she is slim built, comfy to ride and FAST which i love. Shes only about 14.3 which to me is just about right for a lightweight lady- she was advertised at 15.1 but no way is she that big.

I did have a haffy before and she was fantastic- heart of a lion and would do anything you asked, but could be a toad on the ground and would tow you off up the field without a second thought.. but she was too wide and too SLOW for me lol.

Not keen on anything with masses of feather- cobs, shires etc. Also big athletic warmblood types- wouldn't ever want or need one, it would terrify me!!

I like little fluffy native ponies. My Exmoor cross Welsh Section C mare is perfect! I like pretty faces, big eyes and long silky manes. Preferably a bay or brown mare with no markings. Definitely not a grey or a coloured with a lot of white. I wouldn't want anything finely built or high maintenance.

Anything with bone and feather has me completely gaga lol. I adore Clydesdales, Shires, Ardennes ;)
I do like to see a nice moving Friesian and Welsh Ds.
Colour wise I don't like wishy washy colours like greys, cremellos and palomino. Love coloureds and blacks, bays and chestnuts also.
As for types I don't like....basically anything with fine features and spindly legs just doesn't do it for me :/

I like Arabs and native ponies (current brood is 2 x arab, 1 x small pony, 1 x Welsh x NSH (PBA)). I wouldn't have a huge horse for myself.

When I bought Wolf, not that I was looking for a horse, I wanted something with minimal white as pink skin is a right royal pain in the backside. But I fell for the fluttery white eyelashes and the rest is history. In my head he's bay ;)

Friesians! Like the chunkier baroque type. Love a flashy handsome horse with a bit of bone. Really have a thing for solid colours. Not keen on top heavy horses with spindly legs.

I love any black horse, and I particularly love black mares as I have had two strong bonds with 2 black mares. Don't really have a favourite type but I would probably never own an ex racer just because I had a bad accident with one and I doubt I will ever get over that. Would own anything else though, native, fancy warmblood etc as long as I trust the horse I don't care what it is.

I rode a Morgan on holiday this year and he was fantastic - great attitude, good conformation, athletic and comfortable. I need to start saving up for one!! I have a TB x welsh pony (so i'm told!) on loan at the moment. To be honest he is a bit sharp and neurotic for me but a real character.

I've never really enjoyed any Welsh D's i've ridden or bigger cobs though i've ridden some lovely sturdy Irish Sports Horses. I wouldn't do a grey (too lazy!) or anything with a wall eye.

Friesians, I love how they look, how they ride and the temperament. My 4 aren't going anywhere, they will end their days with me.

I don't like spotties - they just don't do anything for me.

I think ID's are just stunning and love to watch sports horses of any type at the top of their game.

I love big natives crossed with a TB; I've got a section D x and she's the business and the second one I've had. I wouldn't really consider anything else now.

I would never have a full TB or a cob - too spindly and too chunky respectively.

Show cobs :) preferably of the piebald or palomino variety. My girl is a hogged show cob and I think she is absolutely perfect (As we all do with our own) but I've always loved them. I think they look so smart while still having the old fashioned leg in each corner. I am also partial to a nice Welsh Section C, Exmoors and I like Arabs when they don't have the overly dished profile. In addition to piebalds and palominos, I also love black horses and really rich red chestnuts.

I don't particularly like traditional cobs, bays, anything spotty or with appaloosa in it, Connemaras (EVERYONE seems to have a Connemara or at least want a Connemara at the moment! I'm much less opposed to a Connie x TB though :)) or uneven white markings on legs (EG: 3 white socks...drives me mad).

I'm not too fussy, but the type that I would say is my favourite is somewhere between a m/w and h/w. Like the chunkier warm blood type, anything welsh. Love arabs, like tb's but not sure if I would actually get one unless they were right for me. Really like the proper heavyweights, percherons, bretons, Ardennes etc but the more spindly just a bit of feather cobs I'm not so keen on.

Basically any good example of most breeds I would be happy with!

The only breeds I would avoid are Friesians, halflingers and trakhners. Purely because I've met a few of each breed and not liked any of them!

I'm of quite the opposite opinion if many of you :) I would never want a fine, spindly-looking breed, just not my thing. I like heavier set horses, and love love love a good Roman/Convex nose.

Always been a fan of a Palomino or any Roan colouring, and black. Any shade of bay bores me. I dislike coloured horses generally.

However, I have a piebald Welsh X whom I adore!

Dream horse would be a Friesian, but temperament is far more important to me.

I have always had welsh section D's, they are all so different and I love it that they have so much character!!

They turn their hoof to anything and are pretty hardy... Just obsessed with food lol!

It will always be a PRE for me. I wanted one as a little girl and now I finally have one!

He's everything I've ever wanted in a horse, brave, clever, loving (when he feels like it!) super smart. I bought him at 6 months old and he arrived at 8 months. We've had our ups & downs with his knees, but I would never change him for the world and would have another in a heart beat!

Love my Mérens (which I have to keep explaining about as no one has ever heard of them lol), for their gentle, steady nature, curiosity and easy trainability. They are the French equivalent of a Fell, and are exceptionally good all-rounders. They'll never win any speed classes, but they can go all day whether driven or ridden, and be ready to repeat the next day. Of course I just happen to own two which fall outside of the general box, as Tartine is very sharp and can be very spooky, and Blitz is enormous.

Would never have a Friesan...

Really surprised at how many people dislike Friesians. I have never owned one or known one, personally, but they look absolutely stunning.
