Unusable Facilities

As the bad weather is fast approaching, the arena on my yard becomes unusable. It is basically made up of sand and nothing else. Half the time in the summer we can't use it because it becomes to deep and the yo refuses to put water on it. In the winter as soon as the temp drop it freezes solid. It can stay like that for weeks at a time. The hacking where we are is'nt great so a lot of people rely on the arena. (some people have kids and the roads are fast so they don't hack). Would it be unreasonable to ask for a reduction in livery if the arena facility is not usable? . The livery prices are fair for what you get. However I do expect to be able to use the facilities they are saying they provide. ( iam on a waiting list for another yard). Thoughts please.

You could as - but the YO doesn't sound as though they are too bothered about providing a complete package so I imagine you won't get a reduction, and as long as surrounding yards are full they are in a strong position.

The only signal that seems to work for these yards is when they have a significant number of empty boxes

you can ask but i doubt you will get anywhere

I would agree...

It doesn't sound like the YO is at all bothered about the quality of the facilities, but if you are already on a waiting list for a different place then I would grit your teeth for the moment, have a word on the off chance, and look forward to being able to move elsewhere

I'm usually rubbish at speaking out BUT do believe that if you don't ask, you don't get.

Good luck!

To be fair you have every right to ask for a reduction, what exactly are you supposed to do with your horse?....Mind you YO doesn't sound like she really cares, explain your situation but tell YO why should you pay the full amount of livery when you are not getting to use the facilities described. But hey at least your on a waiting list for a better yard.

Its all very well asking for a reduction, but do you have a back up plan for if she kicks you and your horse out on your ears with no notice, which could quite probably be the outcome? If you have somewhere to go then all well and good, otherwise I would keep quiet.
