Anyone thats read - http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=604084 will know that scruffy little pony was due to arrive yesterday! Here he was when we viewed him -

We were literally handed his passport and told "Good luck with him, hope you enjoy him" Nothing else asked! So we toddled off down the lane with him to the horse trailer. -

We had thick bandages with us for his legs and tail but they were alien to him so forgive the state of them! We did them as fast as we could so he wouldn't stress. We stroked the rug on his nose and slid it on and although he looked disgusted he was fine!

The second we put him in his makeshift stable last night (he's in there until he's been gelded etc.) he went down and rolled, got up, had a drink and rolled again! He was in heaven.

How I found him this morning -

This morning farrier came at half 8 for a trim. He clearly had no idea what was going on but he was fine, bless him! After his feet we put him into the field for half an hour on his own. Queue farting, bucking, lamb spinning, rearing, rolling, galloping, cantering.. the lot!

We gave him an hour brush over last night but we didn't really get anywhere so we decided if we got a warm enough hour today we'd bath him. Queue 5 of us working flat out for an hour and a half!!! There was pieces of poo on him so hard they couldn't even be squeezed. Some clinked as he walked! This is him this morning -

After his bath -

After his bath we walked him around the yard and he kept catching sight of himself if the windows and whineying at himself!

He has what I'm thinking is rainscald (although I may be wrong so please tell me if so! Also suggestions welcomed!). So will have to sort that out! -

We've settled on the name Bailey. He isn't ask skinny as I thought he may have been. He needs more of a shine than anything! He's got a fantastic nature and I hope we will find him a new home with ease come July/August :)

He's absolutely beautiful. And a very lucky boy to have found you!!

Such an improvement already!!

Well done! :D

He is going to be lovely when his summer coat comes through, a very handsome boy.

And he looks so pleased to be with you.

Good luck with him.

I got him from a guy for free. The guy had took him off a man who had a barn of horses he was sending off to slaughter. I don't know the ins-and-outs and don't want too! :o

Yes hoping to do some in-hand with him as he's lovely and has the most naturally gorgeous trot! I also think for a freebie he's got a decent breeding! Castellmai Celt being his Sire and his Grand-dam being Telynau Deryn Du. And although I know very little about the breed they look very impressive on google images :o:cool:

He's a nice little thing. Haven't seen your first thread about him, but you obviously didn't get him a moment too soon

Sorry to dampen things a bit, but those bare patches aren't in the typical places for rain scald, but they are in the right places for mites/lice....

Hmmmm you may be correct. However we've been told he hasn't been in the elements for at least 6 months, so I thought maybe it was dampness from being lay in his own wee? Or am I being too hopeful here? :o

It may be irritation from urine, but if you're getting the vet out anyway ask them to do a scraping, they'll soon tell you for certain.

wow he looks fantastic!
I'd treat for lice... just in case.

May just be if he's been in a filthy barn urine burns or something.

Will do! He's having all his jabs from the start next week (that's a cheap do ) and he's being gelded so I doubt the cost of scraping will make a dent into the vet bill anyway :o:D:D

He's lovely! I have to say when I saw the first pic on your thread yesterday I was a touch worried it had been a heart over head decision, but he really is a smart boy underneath and I bet he won't take much feeding up at all. Agree with taking a bit off his mane though but well done you!

he looks like a real sweety, doesnt look such a bad weight either, especially coming into spring. i had imagined him alot thinner from the original thread.
good luck with him
N&F

The vet may advise holding off on the gelding until he's in better condition. And careful with worming.

I hope not!
Vets coming Monday for jabs so will see what he thinks!
Otherwise pony is going to be on night field duty for a while!

He's a handsome little chap, looks much better thanks to his bath, and I bet it was a relief for him to get that off. Best of luck with him :)

One thing I'm a bit concerned about - on the second to last picture on his mane you can see the patch with very short hair. The patch of no mane is about 3 inches long. Even after a good trim so the mane is say 6in (or 7?) there would still be a huge difference between the short patch and the long patch. Any chance it could grow to a good length before summer or will it be a strategically placed hair clip or 2 for showing?

Wow! What a difference already, and how trusting of him - Sounds and looks like you really do have a wee gem there! Sell him on? Yeah right ;) :p
