So i posted earlier in the week about my horse having a snotty nose and a very nasty cough but fine in himself. Ventapulmin alone didnt work!
Anyway, vet came out Tuesday and gave him more venti, antibiotics and something to thin out his mucus. Vet said it was an upper respiratory infection. He has no hugh temp, is his bubbly self pushing me around and playing in the field bombing around 90 mph, defo not off his food either. He has slight swelling to his salivary glands but the vet said it was linked to him having haylage on the floor instead of his usual hay in the net (grass glands?)
So hes been having all his drugs since Tuesday and his temp is still fine. Absolutely no snot outside his stable (there had been big lumps). So all the snot has gone and hes been going out as normal. Before the antibiotics he was rolling and upon getting up he was litterally coughing his guts up. Yesterday he did one very light cough which i was pleased about.
This morning hes still doing well however when i was mucking out he did a series of coughs, nothing like before but after yesterday i expected no coughing.
Am i expecting too much too soon? Should he be a bit better by now?
Vet is coming back on tuesday and will decide if he needs scoping.
