Thanks for the vibes/kind PM's last night , to say I was in a state puts it mildly

Ok , sorry I have now gained composure and can actually explain what the problem with Sol was

Basically , she came in from the field with a wound to the inside of her hock (photo to follow) , I cold hosed it , cleaned it and left her in her stable (under guidance of YO) , rang the vet and booked for her to be seen the next day (yesterday).

Yesterday morning the swelling was terrible and her hock had the appearance that it was capped (again photo to follow) . I cleaned it again , put her in the round pen so she could wander about (she wasn’t severely lame – 2/10ths max) and waited for the vet . Got her in at lunch time (vet arrived at about 3pm) and waited.

Vet saw her and was concerned at the amount of swelling . She clipped the area and cleaned the wound and stuck a probe in to see how deep it was (hoping it wasn’t deep!) well it went in a good couple of inches

Obviously then , we started to worry!
Tapped the joint and the joint fluid came back bright red and murky

so she decided that it was best for her to be taken to Langford ASAP to have it drained (as you can’t do a standing drain where it is I believe?)
Checked with a second vet , and they had to same opinion so Langford were informed and we were told to bring her up.
Got her up to the vets hospital at about 9.30 and the vet was waiting for us

Sedated her , clipped her whole leg (she looks so silly

) and cleaned the wound again.
Decided best course of action was to Xray and tap the joints again so I left them with her doing that.
Had a phone call this AM to say that he was happy with her , nothing came up on the xray that worried him , joint fluid was blood stained and it has gone to the lab but there was no need to panic and that she had had a pressure bandage applied and the swelling had improved . He thinks its just a case of cellulitis and infection of the tissue (?) and not it hasn’t affected the joint

She’s staying until Monday as she’s on IV anti-biotics but she’s happy and is probably being her usual troublesome self

Will be able to tell the pony (in sig) that his mate is coming home soon, he was going spare when she left and is wondering where she is!
