Just wanted to let you know how my greyhound is. I took her to the vets today just incase. He examined her she did feel abit of pain when he prodded abdomen. But urine tested normal. So he said just to continue to keep an eye on her :rolleyes: Same vet I spoke to on phone so not the easiest to understand helpful!!! :mad:

All this cost me over £50 :eek: for about 10 mins !!

He said as she seems normal in herself that he was reluctant to go on and do a blood test and possible ultrasound to see if pyo as it's expensive.

Forgot to ask if it is pyo any idea how long would take to become more serious?:confused:
 
I would change vets if I were you - that is extortionate, and is a rubbish service as well! Pyo becomes very serious very quickly unfortunately....

I would be looking to have a blood test myself, but I am paranoid about this sort of problem in greyhounds since I lost my brindle girl in 2008
 
One of my whippets had suspected pyometra. My vet examined her and did an ultrasound. It was not very expensive. The visit was under £100 which included the anti-bios he gave her. Our instructions were very clear. If the discharge cleared up, bring her back within 1 month to be spayed. We watched her like a hawk and she recovered, but she was spayed a month later.

This is a potentially life threatening illness, if the infection continues your dog will die, or will need an emergency spay operation which can cost a lot more than a routine one. We were quoted £700 and that was a small dog.

If you are in any doubt about what your vet said, call and ask again, or ask to see someone else. I would advise you to get your bitch spayed as soon as you can because this is a problem that may re occur.
 
Ok this is what I got charged. 21.72 for consultation and 23.84 for urine analysis then VAT on top does that seem expensive?
 
I'd just get her spayed as soon as you can TBH, with this vet or another one. If you're not breeding, there's no need to keep her open and it's too much of a risk to wait for pyo to happen.
 
But it could still be pyo, I am tempted to book her in to be spayed anyway do you think that would be ok? or would they now be reluctant as she could have pyo?
 
I would take her to a new vet. Insist they blood test and untrasound and then have her spayed. Like this week. As soon as you can. Don't take no for an answer.

That seems actually very fair, I thought the £50 was just for a consultation but they always charge for analysis as well. I agree with the others, I would get her spayed ASAP, you just dont want to take the risk of things going wrong :o
 
Did you say she has hasd a recent season? in the last 3 months? if you are still worried and she seems out of sorts and is drinking and still passing discharge then you def need to see another vet and def discuss spaying her.
 
Ditto the above advice, I would definitely be seeking another vets opinion, and getting her booked in for spaying if the timing is right, Don't just book her for spaying though, mention the symptoms she has been having so the vet is aware there could be an infection.
