Hi, some of you may remember my posts with reference to us rescuing a Percheron yearling (Sultan) who was booked to be exported live from France to Italy for slaughter last august.

I just want to update with what is happening with him. For several months now arrangements have been in the process of preparing him to go to his new foster home in Oxford.
Next week he will be fostered by a boarding school who are going to use him to continue raising awareness for the Ilph's campaign against live export.

We have waited for Sultan to settle after being castrated and for his neglected feet to resemble something normal and his vaccinations to be carried out.
The boarding school has made great efforts to prepare for him by getting a field shelter up for him and his companion and post and rail fencing to replace barbed wire.

A teacher at the school is an AI, she looks after the horses with some of the older pupils at the school, they have lovely equestrian facilities.

I know some members on the forum have voiced their concerns over us rescuing Sultan but i can assure everyone that we are truly commited to this 'big boy' and his purpose in life could not have been better.

They hope to drive him one day, which will be lovely.
I will keep posting an update with regards to his progress.

We are going to miss him so much, he is such a love

Oh that's great.

No idea why, but I thought you personally had rescued this horse for yourself.

No Tia, we have enough of our own already.

We bought him with the intention to promote the ILPH's campaign against live export and to save him from facing the journey to slaughter that he was about to embark on.

We had no expectation of or on the other hand from him.
We were approached by the school and they have shown a great commitment to the campaign so after many careful considerations we felt them a very suitable foster home.

Of course we would have kept him with us and continued to use him to raise awareness for the rest of his life. It had to be a very special foster home to allow us to be confident to let him go.

Hope he is really happy in his new home. And if he isn't, he is still yours and can come back anyway presumably, as it sounds as if you are loaning him to the Boarding School?

You've always been a positive and genuine rescuer in my eyes. Unlike so many who've "rescued" them and sold them on for a profit... Well done to you for what you did for Sultan.

Hi, thanks for the positive comments

Yes, he is on loan. We have given the school a very strict BHS loan agreement.
There will be i trial period before we enter into a longer loan term and he will always be ours and if we have any comcerns that can't be resolved then we would bring him back, without a doubt.
He won't ever be for sale.

The school (Kingham Hill School) has made every effort to show their responsibility and commitment.
Next week they are holding a whole school assembly. The ILPH has sent them videos and lots of material to use for the assembly, and will then they will talk about Sultan and his introduction to the school.
I am so very pleased with the way they are taking this on board and the message is going to be further spread to individuals who will have had no idea that live export goes on.
Our lovely boy has no idea of the impact his presence may have on those young aspiring minds
