So the vet has been - and whilst its not GOOD news its also not TERRIBLE news...
The low down is...
Luca - has hurt his sacroiliac joint. This is pressing on nerves making him look ataxic but there is no nuerological damage! 4 to 8 months of rest and I should have a horse able to be ridden again.
Vet to reassess in 4 months.
River - Ulcer has returned and Navicular has flared up again causing him to be lame in both fronts and his left hind as he loads up his hind end. Vet agrees he's pretty flat and grumpy (sure sign things are not well with him). Back on gastro guard and a steriod painkiller (to also help with severe sweet itch). Raised heel shoes to be put back on as his heels have collapsed a little - she thinks a combination of hard ground and a bit too much hooning in the field are the culprits for his toes and wormer for his tummy - now been given strict instructions on worming routines etc. She wants to speak in two weeks and keep a close eye. There is a chance (strongish she said) he'll come right again but we're keeping a close eye on things...
So all in all - relief as on Thursday she was talking about some very SCARY things being wrong with Luca - but I do have two horses just getting fat for a while! And a close eye is to be kept on River - as the vet said - his soundness remains on a knive edge most of the time - but when we get it right he's brilliant!
Sorry its long and thanks for all the vibes yesterday - if anyones had positive outcomes from any of the above some hope would be great - or just your experiences!!!
A nice coffee for all!!!
