Cat are you on the cambs horsepoo fb page?

only because there was a 7yo ISH by Cruise on mare with a slight shiver for sale yesterday. It stood out to me as not dissimilar to yours (also grey!). I actually thought she was ID so might have been a useful comparison for market value (2.5k) but she isn't.

Who was the lady selling that? As there is a notorious dodgy dealer using a young lady as front for selling his horses now (RG), so I wouldn't take that as gospel. I am blocked from seeing their posts now as I pointed out on one who it actually was.

no it wasn't Maisie, appears to be private home. Not sure what you mean by not taking it as gospel- I'm not shopping just thought given the similar type she made an interesting market value comparison compared to what Cat paid.

More of if it was her selling I wouldn't take it as that was a correct price for a similar horse lol!

Yeah I saw the Maisie Langan one, but I never take much notice of her adverts. The horses **look** nice, but there must be a reason why they're priced as they are.

Can't find the shivers FB one & I've just been looking. BHS helpline hasn't called back yet, & when they do, I suspect it won't be very encouraging. I think the way the world works is that if you've got the brass neck to ***** people over, then you'll probably get away with it as it's such an uphill battle to prove your case & get anything actually done about it.

After your vet's comments today, I can't really see how you can claim against the dealer. I have no doubt, though, that the dealer did know about both the shiver and the filled up crack in her foot. It may be best that you do indeed just crack on.

There's another HHOer who bought an ID from the same dealer this year. The horse presented with a condition suspiciously shortly after arrival and has very sadly since died.

I have been following this from the side lines, I hope you are ok, I have looked after a friends shiverer and picking out his back feet was dicey. That said he went from Novice to Advanced Medium at Regionals in a few years and was partially sighted too, that cause more trouble than his shivering! I hope she ends up being the good horse you want her to be. Feel free to PM me about management.

The BHS may still help, but I don't think you can get free advice on things that happened before you had the cover (membership). I think that is to stop people suddenly joining when they suddenly want free legal advice.

I hope I am wrong.

I joined the BHS before the vet came out, so before the diagnosis of shivers was confirmed... They haven't phoned back anyway, and if they do, I doubt it will be to tell me I've got a strong case...

I would still approach the dealer, maybe try for some money back as you still appear to like the horse.
With so many of us following your story she stand to get a lot of bad publicity if she doesn't assist.

abit random, but how did you pay? if it was credit card, paypal, could they help?

im going against the grain, i know of someone who bought a horse from a dealer, had her for about 5 months (no vetting) sent her back when she was 'unsuitable' when ridden (no health issues) and got a refund via the courts finding in her favor (the other party didnt turn-up) then got her money by a high court writ. i didnt think they'd have any chance, but it was straight forward for them. ive no idea who the dealer was.

I have been following this thread because I bought Quigley from Gerty and Quigley arrived sick and has since died. I should have contacted Gerty immediately and informed her he was sick but I didn't. I should have insured him but I didn't. He was the horse of my dreams that I had split every halfpenny for a long time to buy and I thought I could fix him with a bit of TLC and a course of antibiotics. I didn't know that horse pus looks like snot. I had him 5 stage vetted with dozens of radiographs (not of his head obviously) 10 days before he shipped and he was also 5 stage vetted at the Cavan sales the previous November. I also met the port health vet on duty that night quite randomly who told me every lorry load of livestock is checked and if one of them had been pouring snot/pus from a nostril it would have been turned away. I mismanaged the whole thing because Quigley wasn't a commercial venture or a vehicle to me he was the realisation of a dream. He was also not for sale. Gerty was keeping him for Dublin but I wheedled away at her until she agreed to sell him. Shortly before he shipped some Americans tried to gazump me and offered Gerty €10k. I know because they offered me the difference between €10k and what I paid which was considerably less. I am not trying to defend Gerty here, I think she should take Summer back, just add some context to this thread. In Catambi's shoes I would contact a specialist equine lawyer but I should imagine the fact that Gerty is in ROI is a big issue in any compensation claim so I would appeal to Gerty . I looked at the video when Catambi bought Summer (somebody said something about her action) and I noted the hind foot thing straight away and I am no expert horse woman. I showed the video to my son who is a vet without telling him why and he said "that mare has an issue with her hinds". It is awful that Catambi has been injured and that Summer is a shiverer but she is alive, the condition is mild and following you around as you poo pick which is exactly what Quigley did and I would give anything to have him back.

That's heartbreaking. I'm so sorry that happened to you x

Who paid the transport for the returns?

I believe the seller did but I may be wrong! They had to keep ringing and threatening to get sorted

1st horse was nothing like the one in the video had lost a lot of condition and totally unsuitable from what was described
2nd was not even rideable
3rd was ok and she has him

So sorry to read this, I haven't read all replies just wanted to give you a positive story.

OH ' s horse of a life time was a shiverer, did evertthing, hunt, dressage BE, lost him at 17 to something unrelated to shivering.
He taught us that barefoot can work really well, had him shod behind twice, then realised it was so traumatic for him never bothered again. In fact we never picked his hind feet up. He wouldn't load with rear travel boots on either so gave up on them.

OH's current giant warmblood (19hh's) , now 18 is also a shiverer, owned him since he was 3. Again, does a bit of everything, barefoot behind. Only trimed his back feet twice, it's not worth stressing him out to do it, has never had shoes behind.

It's very hard getting your head around not giving hoof care, both self trimmed with hacking, we just limited road hacking if we thought hooves were a bit short.

Having experienced these two wonderful horses we wouldn't be put off having another shiverer, really hope,it works out with your girl and you recover quickly.

Please feel free to pm me if I can be any help.
