Vet was out last night, luckily he's fine this morning. Turns out it was a blockage from some straw, not sure if vet flushed it out but apparently vet didn't give him any painkillers or muscle relaxants so not sure how they knew it was a blockage or how they got it out?!

Anyway, he's back to normal this morning. They phoned the person they bought him off and apparently she was questioning why vet didn't come out too, and when they told her which vet it was, she claimed he didn't know anything about horses, sounds like he has a reputation to me!

Just grateful he's ok this morning

hmm, well, you can't 'flush out' a blockage, he might have been able to massage it enough for horse to pass it, perhaps.
i really think your friend needs a different vet in future, i have never heard of an equine vet leaving a colic case to the next day etc.
very lucky horses imho. might be better to bed him down on something unpalatable...!

As I said before, straw is a b*gger for causing impactions, especially if the horse is not a big drinker. She needs to put him on some other bedding, obviously.

Also, get a new vet! That is outrageous - maybe the old owner can recommend someone if not too far away?

Very glad to hear he is ok

Good news, thanks for updating us.
My older neddy, when he occasionally goes down with mild colic, the vet actually puts his arm up said botty and pulls it out by hand

I think a change of vet is called for though if he 'know nothing about horse'

Poor violated neddy!

He's gone straight back onto shavings as he was on that before with no problems. Two good things have come out of this though - the owners vow they'll always have vet straight out and now the mam likes him, especially since vet said he was just lean and needed to fill out a bit, no unerlying health problems that she suspected. Luckily, a good outcome for all involved

My 21 yaer old had this quite regularly I have just found a product called Clear out, I put 2 scoops in each feed and touch wood etc seems to help and if there is a problem the dose can be increased to 10 scoops for a compleat CLEAR OUT.
