Update on the neglected 'vomiting' horse

I'm amazed the ILPH have done nothing, the horse is in an appauling condition.

Maybe we, as HHO members should ALL email the ILPH and politely point out that we, the general public, raise funds for them and are of the opinion that this horse needs rescuing. Be polite and to the point. Rude / angry emails won't help.

Oh no! Lou, I think as long as you live where you do, you'll always be coming across horses like this. I'm glad you have found her as I'm sure you'll do the best by her. Take care, x

This makes me so ANGRY! As one of the others said, these so called welfare organisations don't go after the gipsies because they're scared, but they're quick enough to tackle decent horse owners because they know they'll get a response. I'm glad you're going to complain - maybe you could show them the responses on here and let them see that no-one is impressed by their pathetic response to what is clearly a neglected and unwell horse.

Please be careful and if you have to walk away at the end of all this at least you (and we) know that you did all you could.

There was a Horse at a yard that I worked at who had a massively deformed foot. She spent about 22hrs a day lying down. I wish I'd taken pics as it's hard to describe but her foot was basically attached at 45degrees backwards and could not take any weight. She was very skinny despite having a good appetite. Both myself and the other girl begged the owner to have her PTS, she had no quality of life, but he refused. The conditions there were not good but we both stayed knowing the Horses were better off with us there looking after them as best we could.
Anyway, I called the ILPH to the mare. They were useless, saying they could do nothing. In the end, we eventually convinced the owner to have her PTS. I was relieved. She was in constant pain and it was heartbraking seeing her like that. RIP.
My faith in them, since that day, is not good.

I have only just caught up with this story so forgive my lateness.
Lou I applaud you in your crusade to stop this wanton cruelty and neglect of horses.
I have followed a few cases you have been involved with since I joined this forum and your strength and tenacity in the face of adversity has not only brought tears to my eyes but also rekindled my faith in humans.
I was appalled at the case involving the filly foal whose death I also feel was attributed to the lack of care and concern from the organisations that are simply 'meant to care and be there'.
I have just seen the picture of the mare being referred to here and now and I am equally appalled at what I have seen.
The mare is extremely emaciated. I believe more so than what can be seen by the picture as well because she has a thickish winter coat that is hiding a multitude of sins beneath.
I also think that what you witnessed that day was a result of choke and there could well be an underlying medical condition or deformity ( as JM07 pointed out) causing this.
However this needs to be explored and just giving the mare haylage ( was this delivered by owners or ILPH Lou, sorry but I was not certain after reading the posts?) may not be the answer.
Until this horse is seen by a vet and any problems addressed then she will not improve imo.
Why can't the ILPH understand that simple fact?
I am both very annoyed and dismayed by their response to be honest.
Lou has the mare any other signs of dribbling at all from her mouth? Does she have any foul smell to her around the mouth area? Have you seen her actually graze or eat food successfully and not looking in any discomfort?
It has just crossed my mind that she may possibly have a foreign body in the mouth, hence the questions about a smell or dribbling.
I'm sure I have read cases about cats ( and dogs) having a foreign body stuck in the mouth but because they were not pawing at the mouth then it was not apparent for a long while anything was stuck in there. I am thinking of a case involving a piece of chicken bone I think it was and I'm sure it was a cat.
Anyway sorry for digressing for a moment, just trying to explain my suggestion.

Please keep us informed about this mare as I am sure you will and if you need anything, anything at all you only have to ask x
I'm sure that many of us ( probably everyone) who know you on here or who support your efforts in helping these horses are behind you all the way. If you think that by writing to the organisations ie ILPH and RSPCA as a group and requesting their help will help in any way just say the word and I will be very happy to put pen to paper or type emails as I am sure would many others.
I really hope there is a good outcome to this case though Lou. I agree with what others have said already that no individual should be treated as though they are above the laws of cruelty no matter how scared the officials are of repercussions to any action take against these people.
With hope x
Caroline
