Been following your ups and downs of horse buying and am so pleased for you. I love that hho conjured up some history on him and even someone who knew him from before. What a small world. Also great that he passed his vetting cleanly. Makes it easier on the insurance!

But please be straight with the insurers as it might invalidate your cover if not. NFU did let me downgrade my mare once she retired but for a new purchase I suspect the rules are it’s what you paid. NFU needed xrays for 10k plus which in this market seemed a bit over the top.

Thanks everyone. Not had much time to post on here because work has been manic, the project is really underway and loads of progress has been made and the drawings are flying in left right and centre.

I was flat out yesterday. Managed to leave on time and disinfected the stable and I'm going to bed down tonight. Also going to buy the food he is currently on tonight and buy some haylage as I'm going to mix to hay gradually over a few weeks so I end up giving more hay than haylage in case its a bit too high in energy.

Saddle fitter out Monday, friend has offered me to try her two saddles if mine are no good fit wise, I really hope my Jefferies Falcon Event saddle fits, or I will be so sad as it was mostly paid for by my late father.

Got my insurance sorted out and managed to insure for 2.5K under the price I'm paying for him and started the insurance off today on the proviso I pay seller today which I will in case there are any last minute hitches with the money going through as she's out in the sticks a bit and the internet not great. My suggestion not hers.

Insurance was £1050 which isn't too bad. No tack though.

Waiting call back from EDT which is suprising as he is very good at getting back to me.
Farrier called me back, coming Wednesday after work to discuss.

Phew - getting there.

Ohhhh - he’s very smart! He looks comfortable to ride too, I wish you many happy years with him.

Is it this weekend he’s arriving? Nothing more exciting than a new pony day!

My Jeffries Falcon Event has fitted my last 3 horses which are completely different - with a little tweaking by the saddler. It just seems to be one of those saddles that fit a lot of horses. So fingers crossed for you.

NFU based on standard cover at £10,000 with £5,000 vets fees doing the usual riding club stuff. £2011 a year or £171 a month.
I nearly fell off my chair!

Apparently its because he's a WB and 10! WTF ????
They are very expensive. I had similar quote for my 16yo happy hacking cob. Hence not bothering.

I’ve got one of these and it’s fit 3 horses (tweaking/pads etc)
2 big Irish and a small Irish sort - all of them in not exactly hard work.
only when I put the last one to proper work did I need a new saddle :(
