Urgent - something wrong with my cat

I left my cat at 9pm and she had been fine all day - in and out playing etc.

I got back from my parents just now to find her squatting in the kitchen sink trying to wee - she never does this - i told her to get down and she meowed and ran to her tray.
2 minutes later she is trying to pee on the carpet - i went to catch her she meowed and ran off upstairs - and i found her squatting on the spare bed.
I decided to watch her and see whether she actually peed (mattress is for the tip this week) and although she tried nothing came out except for a few watery spots of blood.

She is neutered and 2yrs old.
Could it be a cat form of IBS??
Anything i can do until i take her to the vets tomorrow?

She feels really sorry for herself and isnt purring when i fuss her - she also keeps licking her "bits"

IBS is iritable bowel syndrome so if it is a problem to wee then it's not that.
She may have a urine infection, carthorse, i think they can get cystitis.
If she is in discomfort i would call emergency vet and get advice from them. I think i would take her in the morning to get her checked out if it hasn't changed.
Do her back legs seem to be ok, she couldn't have been clipped by a car could she?

QR-I was going to suggest that she'd possibly been clipped by a car. Years ago a cat we owned was hit, the car just caught him as he flew across the road. He seemed fine, just a little sore-rang the vet who said if he seemed ok and was eating and drinking (which he was) then he was probably fine and to run him up for a check the following day. Later that evening he was struggling to wee and ws crying in his tray, took him to the emergency vet ho said it was because he was bruised and knocked.

ive rung emergency vet - no answer.

Have read they can get cystitis and only antibiotics can treat it.
I have checked her over with my boyfriend and we cant find anything wrong with her - she is happy to let us touch her everywhere - it is just when she wees.
 
Yes this is cystitus (sp?) My cat has had it twice. Get to the vets tomorrow, mine had 3 lots of tablets to take. Just out of interest what food is she on? My vet said there was a connection with Iams and cystitus.
 
Sounds like cystitis to me. When one of ours was behaving in a very similar way to yours, I rang our vet, this was the conversation:
Vet: Have you any antibiotics around that your cat refused to finish?
Me: Yes
Vet: Give her one tonight and one in the morning then ring for an appointment. Have you any Metacam (painkiller)?
Me: Yes but it's out of date
Vet: Give her one drop now and one in the morning.
I know this sounds a bit odd but we knew the vet well and he had often laughed at our 'home vet kit'.

We did as he said and took her down the next day. The newly qualified vet I saw was a bit surprised by all this but prescribed pretty much the same stuff, although in date

The cat made a good recovery.
 
I never feed dry food since a neutered tom that I had years ago got cystitis and nearly died as the then vet misdiagnosed. I was told then that dried cat food caused this in susceptible cats

Between the posts in here and the soapbox i pretty sure that what she has - i dont have any antibiotics for her so i will get the earliest appointment i can tomorrow.

Ive just given her some milk as it was suggested to get fluid into her - she turned her nose up at simple water! - but is lapping away at the milk.

The other 2 cats cant believe their luck as i had to give them some too so they didnt steal hers!
 
Feline urinary tract disease is very common as are bladder stones (crystals really). Your vet should be able to sort you out tomorrow.
 
As for her diet she has meat and dry food.
She gets bad breath (gingivitus really) so i was told by the vet to give her dry food as it would help with her teeth.
She doesnt overly like it though!

She was on IAMs for a few weeks - then decided she didnt like it, then she had just normal Go Cat for about 2 months before going of that and now she is on ASDA Tiger dry food and eats it happily.

Fussy? my cat? never!
 
Be very careful feeding dry food. The only way it's safe is if the cat drinks plenty of water, but explaining that to a cat is difficult. They use magnesium salts to produce the dry food and in an increasing number of cats, this causes irritation and/or crystals in the urine. It was the cause of my little moggie Marks's death as he struggled for 7 years with increasing bouts, steroids, collapse and utter misery. He was pts 5 years ago. His brother Spencer is just beginning to suffer similar problems. This type of problem usually affects neutered male cats as they have very narrow urethras. Female cats can get it too, but often female cats get cystitis as glenruby says - sometimes this can be stress related.

When Spencer almost died from a totally blocked bladder some months back, a kind Forum member recommended James Wellbeloved dry cat food to me. It contains cranberries and I thought that made a lot of sense as women are advised to drink cranberry juice to avoid cystitis. Touch wood, Spencer hasn't has an attack since then and the food is very good quality (though not cheap!).
 
The cheaper the dryed food the higher it is in protine Royal Canin do one to help uniary tract.You can mix it with a cheaper one.Ayams causes a lot of problems in cats Better with royal canin,arden grange, burns etc.
 
Oh no poor cat - our male cat gets that all the time - it's called feline lower unrinary tract disease (a.k.a cystitis as far as I can tell!). It can be very serious so does need to be treated. We got told off by the vets for feeding cheaper dry food (they were on Felix and Go Cat). Both cats are now fed high-quality dry food - Hills Science Diet Prescription C/D for the FLUTD cat (or S/D when he's having an attack and has crystals). The other cat is on Purina Pro Plan Delicate. Both seem much better since being on the better food (and it still works out cheaper than the felix/Gocat combo?!).

My cat had this a few times, took her to the vets and they gave her antibiotics ect and never once did they ask what she was being fed.
I did my own research on the internet and discovered that she was getting it because she was on dry food, so changed her over to wet food with no dry food what so ever and she never got it again.
 
get her to the vets as soon as problem i have had this problem with my 2 cut boys they were straing to wee with blood in it took to the vets they had stones witch blocked the urine tract the had to be cathered to relise there wee 6 months of tablets and injections every day touch wood better now but are on s/o vet urinary dry feed and will be for the rest of there lives. with this feed it has a ph level very close to there own so helps breack down any stones that try to form. it got that bad with one of my boys they were going to do an op on him to chop is penis of to make the hole bigger so the stones could not block him up so easliy. dont wait about get the cat to the vet!xx
 
She has a kidney infection - take her to the vets today, they will give her antibiotics which should clear it up pretty quickly.

Ok guys -my cat is booked into the vets at 10.10am - it is the earliest space they had.

I am not "waiting around" as someone put it - my original post was at 11pm last night when all vets were shut and emergency one not answering phone.

I posted purely to see if anyone knew of anything i could give her to make her more comfortable through the night.

I KNOW she needs the vet - i was never not going to take her but as she only started displaying symptoms late last night there wasnt much i could do.
 
Hope you have got moggy to vet. If not, please do so now.

I realise this is sounding extremely bossy, but one of my mogs came down with cystitis whilst at a cattery and it was 50/50 by the time he saw the vet.

Don't wait for a vets appointment, take moggy straight there and tell receptionist you think mog may have blocked urinary tract. Any experienced receptionist will know this is an emergency.

Hope the moggy is feeling better soon.

Can I suggest you query not being able to raise the emergency vet when you are at the surgery.

Tbh, I would be looking at changing vets if this happened to me.
