Hey guys,

hope your all well!

stupid question of the day - I have a nice comfy half pad but it doesn’t appear to have any attachments for the saddle.

Im used to attaching my numbna with Velcro straps to the stirrup leathers but never used a half pad before and although it looks super comfy I worried it will be unstable since I can’t attach it to the saddle!!!!

Any wise words here would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
Kx

will you be using it with a numnah or saddle pad underneath? if so, the straps of the other pad will keep it in place. Though I use them without straps on either and find they rarely move anyway.

I am assuming your saddle has been fitted with the space to accommodate a half pad, as some are quite thick and can change the way the saddle fits.

brill - thanks so much! Yes I asked my poor saddler to come out again to check it was still ok to use with the half pad. Just forgot to ask him how to secure the damn thing! He gave it the all clear. I will need a new saddle in a few months anyway as I only bought him a few weeks ago and he had no top line - now he’s on good quality feed and has a lovely field to roam around he is starting to change shape! This horse riding lark is a lot of money isn’t it!! Worth it though ?

if you find that it does move you could ask someone to add some tabs to it to fix to your saddle D rings or girth straps. I would think that most rug-repair places would do that easily if you aren't up for doing it yourself.

Assuming it's a sheepskin? The roll at the pommel will keep it in place nicely. Some have little slits for you to thread the velcro straps from the saddle cloth through but IIRC they only worked with CC type pads.

No sadly it’s not - I wish I had got a sheepskin one now. It’s a wetherbeater memory foam one, it just looks like a big squishy cushion which is why I’m worried about it being secure!!!

^ some people do attach the girth straps of the saddle pad to their stirrup leathers, e.g. if you have a monoflap saddle. I just cut them off but it's not unheard of.
