I use straw pellets atm but was wondering about giving wood pellets a go.

However i like how my straw pellets perform so would only like to try wood pellets if they are similar.

So basically my question is...

Do wood pellets compact down underneath into a solid layer (if not lifted everyday obviously)?

I love the fact that in the week i only have to scoop the poop off the top of my bed (no wet) and then one weekend day i just dig out the damp spot - saves me so much time.

Are pellets like this too or do they act more like shavings and not compact?

I started using wood pellets a couple of months ago and at first I thought "nah dont like these" but have to say they have grown on me! Yes they compact down and I have found the best thing is to not disturb them and then it forms a solid base. I skip out everyday and just brush a bit of dry stuff over any patches of damp I can see. I only take out the wet every 14 days (!!!!!) and then add 2 bags of partly soaked pellets to the bed. When I do a wet muck out I carefully scrape away at the bed and unlike other bedding I have used, found the wet is just confined to where the wee hit the bed! and it hasn't seeped or spread. So my bedding cost have halved as well as my mucking out time - win win!!!!

We changed about 4 montha ago fron wood to straw pellets, they work exactly the same, although we use less bedding and have drier, lighter beds with straw pellets.
