Pointless post, but it was so exciting (but terrifying at the same time!)

My friend's horse P was moved into Morris' field (which he shares with his best friend T) yesterday. Now, T is notorious for being a bully in the field, but we thought P would be fine as Morris is very quiet in the field, so would look after P (Morris is too big to be bullied by T!).
So P was put in the field with the other 2, and all seemed fine apart from P being separated a bit, but this seemed normal for the 1st day.

Anyway, i was catching a friend's pony today, when a stranger drives up and tells me that a horse is loose on the road!
T had driven P out of the field and P had jumped the gate (nearly 4ft) and the cattle grid (at least 5ft wide) and was cantering up and down the fairly busy road outside. Thankfully, traffic on both sides of the road had stopped and given him lots of room, and someone had got out and was trying to catch him. I shouted to the YO and leaped over a fence and legged it over a very big (and muddy) field. Just as i reached the fence next to road, YO drives round and jumps out of the car and catches P - and steals all my glory!! I was absolutely shattered and could barely breathe! Anyway, we caught him and led him back up the road.
Needless to say, T has been moved into a field on his own!

I just had such horrible visions of him reahcing the roundabout at the end of the road and ending up on the bonnet of a car! Especially since my horse could have been part of the reason why he got onto the road in the first place.

Sorry for the long, pointless post, but it was so exciting and dramatic i just had to tell someone!

Dramatic maybe. Exciting - hmmmm not in my book. A horse at a yard where my friend keeps her horse broke his leg jumping a cattle grid last year. I think exciting is perhaps the wrong choice of words for something like this - just my opinion of course.

Oh my, what a worry! Thank goodness all was ok. I had a very bad accident when my pony bolted and hit a car head on when I was 13 (many moons ago). Cars and horses do not mix! xx

I don't mean exciting by 'fun' exciting - it definately wasn't fun! was sh*tting myself! i meant exciting as in 'got the heart racing' kind of exciting. Maybe wasn't clear enough.

thanks

your accident sounds terrifying! i'm assuming the pony didn't come out of it completely unscathed? and were you riding it or was it loose? nasty either way!

Thats the only bad thing about our yard - its in the middle of 2 fairly busy roads. unfortunately, the field ours are in is the closest to the road! another horse escaped last year when my friend was putting 2 horses in the field and didn't have a free hand to close the gate, and this horse just nipped out, but luckily went the other way, to the yard, not to the road but that could have been worse as he didn't catch well :S

That is traumatic. My horse got onto a busy road about 3 years ago, after breaking away while being on box rest...
She was cantering up the wide verge and turned towards the road just as a HGV was coming. I held my head in my hands and looked away, as she just skipped and turned swiftly and quickly up back to the gate. Very frightening. Another 2 seconds and she would have crashed head on to the lorry. The lorry didnt even brake!!! We caught her whilst she was on the way back up, nightmare.
It is very frightening. Thankfully you have got a happy ending.
