Thank you everyone for your lovely comments, he is a one off got him by just being in the right place at the right time, my lovely mare died suddenly and as I was working at a hunt yard at that time I took Barney over for the summer when he was 6yrs old, his owner was short of money so I offered to buy him and got him very cheap because of his blindness, I’ve just lightly hunted him and mainly hacked him out. Sian usually works abroad but came home last November because of COVID.
she had previously sold her own horse and was looking for something to ride occasionally. She hacked out Barney a couple times a week and gelled with him straight away and rode him so well. I was thrilled when she offered to take him to the park as it was a ten minute hack from the yard. It was awesome I was so proud of him, he is the perfect gentlemen in the stable and to be ridden I am very lucky to have him. He has kept me sane for the last year. I am retired and don’t plan on doing anything more than hacking with him he’s happy no matter what we do. Sian unfortunately is due to go to America to work soon so we will be back to quiet hacks and maybe a day out hunting next season.

I loved reading this post! It has made my day. He is a glorious horse and I am not surprised you are proud of him!
Plus, it is a lovely example of how a share arrangement can work for everyone involved. Such a shame Sian has to leave!

Hi guys, I enjoy reading all these threads so decided to tell you all what I’ve been up to, my horse Barney I’ve had for 6years and only done hacking and a little bit of hunting, a friend has been helping me exercise him for the last 6 months through lockdown, I’m 70 so I don’t do any jumping and have no transport. Cut a long story short, Sian asked if she could take him to the ’have a go’ day held 10 mins away at local manor park. So we put in lots of work improving canter work, jumping any logs out hacking We could find, me on my bike Sian riding Barney. I had a pair tri jumps so with some half pallets made a xc jump. Day arrived and we entered the 80cm SJ AND XC now Barney has never SJ in his life ive known him since he was broken and he only ever hunted, and he is blind in one eye so we didn't know what to expect well he went above and beyond in his honesty and boldness, it was a beautiful sunny day on 17th April He cleared the SJ and attacked the Xc with gusto, I was so proud of him and Sian. Here are some photos from the photographer on site for you to share.
What a lovely write up about it. Thanks for sharing, lovely horse x
