Very sad day tomorrow, i need hugs

I have tears in my eyes as I read this, but as others have said you have been with her for so long and her friend and now you realise it is time to let her go. {{{hugs}}} and all my thoughts, I will be thinking of you tomorrow a'noon and giving my horse an extra big hug.

What a sad, sad day for you tomorrow

I cannot imagine what is going through your head and heart at the moment. As others have rightly said you have made the right decision for your mare. A very brave one- it is believe me- and the right one for your horse. Only the most caring of owners care enough about animals in their charge to have them pts before total quality of life is gone.
You say she is looking withdrawn and not part of the herd. Maybe she indeed recognises that her time is close. I have no idea what happens to old or diseased horses in the wild and if they wander off to die alone ( as I know some animal species do).
In your case though Amber will receive a very dignified end. A fitting end to a horse that has given you so much pleasure over the years.
I think we owe it to our horses to make that decision if the need ever arises.
I hope all goes as well as it can do tomorrow for you and Amber x
my sincere condolences

She has been a luck horse to have been owned by you. She has not moved from owner to owner and been worried by having to sort out her place in the herd. You should be proud you have done the best for your lovely horse.

Aww so sorry Thistle. It's very sad when we have to say goodbye to our lovely horses, but you know you are doing the right thing by her. No less than she deserves; by the sounds of it she has been a good and loyal servant.

Be strong for her.

So sorry to hear this news. It is the toughest yet kindest thing we can do for our fabulous horses when they need us to make that decision for them. Will be thinking of you and Amber as she crosses Rainbow Bridge. You take care.

Sending you loads of hugs. You are doing the right thing, and having been in this situation I think you will probably feel slightly better having made the decision, strange as it sounds. You are giving her a peaceful end before she is suffering too much. Will be thinking of you later today.

you are doing the right thing, its is totally the most responsible and unselfish thing to do.

So many people hang onto their animals for their own needs rather than put the animal first.

Thinking of you later today, hugs xxxxxx

Massive hugs for you, and pats for Amber, a hard thing to do and hope that when the days comes for me i can be half as brave about it as you.

Will be thinking of you

Awww thats a horrible thing to go through especially after having her for so long but she's lucky to have an owner who is thinking of her suffering even if it does mean letting them go.
My old ned was diagnosed with cushings december 2005, he has gone a bit down hill since then (have to watch lami and he is currently clipped in the winter) but it doesn't seemed to have got too bad as he is still very much rideable. I am dreading the day when we would let him go as i've had him since i was 4 (so as lnog as i can remember) It's horrible for them to have cushings as you can only watch them deteriate and you feel so helpless.
How old was she when diagnosed with it?
