Very strange... Saddle fitter

Going even more off topic, but that is so much to do with the internet and perceptions of price and value. Selling a second hand saddle earns probably 50% of the profit of selling a new one, owners of used saddles want the best possible price for it when they sell it and now have direct access to the market, buyers also want it at the best possible price....the margins are being squeezed and squeezed and there's no option in there to at least earn a living. Many fitters won't even go out and fit synthetics because again of the margins and owners still complain about the cost of used saddles or the trade in prices they are offered, and aren't prepared to pay higher call out prices to compensate, let alone the huge cost of fuel now.

Not saying this applies to every customer and every fitter at all, but it is a trend.

Now I don't fit synthetics or second hand saddles, so I have no personal beef whatsoever, it doesn't affect me, but this is how it is. Something had to give, and keeping a large room full of dead second hand stock costing storage space and earning decreasing margins was what had to go.

100% agree with this. People have unrealistic ideas of what a secondhand saddle is worth. We have had people leave saddles with us to sell on commission & then take them back after 3/4 weeks as they have been unsold. We have then spotted the same saddles on FB being sold & they are there for WEEKS! They also have to deal with all the questions & decide if it can be taken & tried, will they take returns - blah, blah. We take S/H saddles as a service for our customers, & we fit them, we also list them online. This all costs time & money & we are NOT a charity. Phew, rant over :))

all very well and good except when the fitter is taking saddles worth double the price of the one they are fitting (incorrectly) and then charging ontop!! THEN you have a lucrative second hand saddle business...and are a complete charlaton!!

I doubt if she would be Vat Reg (£78,000 sales used saddles each year!) or used so much if what you all say is true! Bad saddle fitters come and go This one been fitting saddles as a job since 1988.

if this person has 6,000 (sorry 6,879) threads on h & h then its a no wonder she had to loan her poor horse. This is just time spent on h & h forum As 50% of information on the internet is misinformation we know where her opinions come from. Proof of saddle fitting is in the horses movement under a balanced saddle.

Based on your logic, you're on 2 already...halfway there, pet ;)
