I'm getting very suspicious of this good fortune... first Rome for my birthday, then getting engaged, now Asti - not used to things being good!!!

AND Kev has suggested going to look at a wedding fair this weekend. This is terrified of commitment Kev!!! Think he's looking forward to being a "daddy" to a foalie! Long way to go yet though...

By the way - coffee with Baileys for me!!!!

lol, best 2 plan in advance for weddings, We started planning early with mine and it all dried up after the initial novelty wore off and it was a mad rush at the last minute but went well in the end

Congrats x 3 I think! lol, u should be on champers not coffee and baileys! lol

Fingers crossed

I do hope so, that is going to be an interesting baby.

Don't laugh, OK then, DO laugh, but try the nail test!

Have you got a barren mare or gelding that you can use as a control too. Honestly, it sounds daft, but I did the nail thingy on both my mares (and a gelding, the foal and the stallion, just to be sure) and it went nuts...........my Vet thought I am a total fruitcake when he came to scan and I told him that they were in foal and how I knew. Apart from them threatening to kick the colt's teeth down his throat if he tried any hanky panky again that is.

Yes I can try the nail test if you tell me exactly how! And how early can you try it? And have another mare I can use as control who isn't in foal...

Starting to get a bit excited... didn't really sink in yesterday, plus the vet is being really cautious as there are some grey areas in the scan that he's a bit wary of... might be entirely nothing... could do with an AndyPandy view!!!

One decent sized nail/bolt/screw tied at the top to a piece of string. Hold it a couple of inches above the pelvis area, and wait. If it is an empty mare/gelding the nail should stay still. If there is a filly in there it will circle, for a colt it will swing back and forth along the spine, it will be a definite movement and often quite strong, I find that the further on the mare is the quicker the nail starts to move. I used mine about a month after the mares were covered, although you could try earlier.
It's all just a bit of fun, but when it told me my girls had taken I was bouncing about all over the place! Sad woman that I am!

Damn! bloody foal is out again........

I am so pleased for you...

My vet was cautious with Han's foal because they said it was an unusual shape at 21 days

However, Troy is now with us and ready to be weaned and is certainly not an unusual shape

I think they just have to be cautious with us fragile mare owners

Status quo is restored. Stupid foal was doing 40mph wall of death circuits around the house, horses in all fields going beserk. Foalie completely ignores hysterical mum who has jumped all over me.......teach me not to go out in slippers won't it! Finally herded her into a paddock, where she is now pestering the heck out of Zeus. Great kick start to the morning and it's only just getting light here.

Let us know if you do the test.

We have a similar escapologist but she's a mini shettie thats just boarding with us, not a foal... Electric fencing even 4 strands of tape, on mains, is no deterrent to her.

We now have one paddock well fenced with a single strand down the middle, Asti is on her own away from evil Ivy who pesters her and runs her about - which I wasn't risking - but Lily can nip under the fence and stay with Asti where its quiet, or in with B&I where Ivy tries to kill her every few minutes!!!

She seems peaceful enough though on her own, still chats to Byter over the fence...

I have been hibernating you are quite right! Only had puter for about a fortnight!! He's stunning - just googled him (got his name from the 2008 due post). I'm not a huge fan of spotties - I like them and I don't at the same time - make any sense? I thought not

I just don't think I've been around enough of them to make a truely informed decision. However, I do like him and I'm not just saying that!! Out of interest, what made you decide to change from using an Arab - you were so set on that idea.

I decided that there weren't any big enough arabs round here and I didn't want to risk getting something smaller than Asti so I looked at some "alternatives".

Wasn't convinced by the spots myself but then we went to see him and he's an absolute love! I know the owner, have done for years, and its a really small yard, it was laid back and quiet and she loved being there.

How many other horses do you know that you can take to a new place, hand over and they put her out on her own in a strange paddock but next to others, and she just puts her head down to graze straight away? Then when they go to catch her 10 mins later (farrier arrived to take shoes off) she walks straight over to a complete stranger and wanders in without a complaint?

I swear she just thought she was still at home but a different field!

Anyway, as I said he's just so cuddleable and cheeky but not a nasty bone in him, and he moves beautifully, and was doing dressage but now eventing so is an allrounder, and graded, and British so was just perfect!

Long way to go yet though... just hope the scan is fine and the vet is fussing over nothing...
