Vets have me at my wits end..

Don't forget you can get lots of options in NI, there is several pet stores in Newry.

Zooplus is a good place to start looking for chicken free options
I already shop with zooplus and have their plan so will likely order when everything settles.

I'm too far from Newry to get up there reasonably unfortunately.

I agree on the comment about Caesar likely containing chicken, I'm absolutely not a fan of the stuff and only had him on it because he had firm poos and no reaction.

So time to give an update. I went back to the vets last night,. Brought back the RC and gave the vet a look at the ingredients, they said 'it's absolutely ridiculous' that it has chicken in it and made an honest mistake. Apologised profusely and gave me a list of what is needed diet wise. A feed with high protein, as little fat content as possible, and a decent fibre content. No chicken obviously.

I mentioned my concerns about the steroids, so we are going to work towards reducing those, but we need his blood protein to come up first.

Discussed the fact that when he has an episode he recovers fairly quickly once back on Caesar. Vet now thinks that because he's likely never had a spleen as they couldn't find one at all on two separate ultrasounds, he's been living with this low protein condition a lot longer than we know, possibly years.

He maybe did have a bout of gardia or a parasite infection that upset his gut lining and kicked off a chicken allergy. It also can develop over years of exposure.
They did say he's a total anomaly and he actually has the whole practice baffled as normally a dog with his symptoms is severely ill and not the happy opinionated fella he is. He was showing off doing tricks for the receptionist!

Where does that leave me? Feeling better and listened to by the vet. They were genuinely disgusted by the RC food and will question it.

So I'm gonna do a lot of research and see what feed I can get him on, and hopefully that makes a difference.
