..for my Mum.

We found an amazing loan home for Ilex in South Wales.
Took her up yesterday and she settled really well and was happy with her new field mate. Though she was turned out which me nor Mum were happy about (the ground was very hard and quite slippy) but there were no free stables (they were switching around and wanted to put Ilex in the nicer ones today).

Cut a long story Mum had a phone call this morning to say Ilex had been found with her pastern hanging underneath her.
Vet came out and said she had a break (but was standing) and her tendon had torn off.
She was PTS as there was nothing they could do. Even if they had've been able to do something, her quality of life would've suffered and Mum wasn't prepared to put her through that.

After 5 years with my Mum she achieved so much, gave someone her love and trust for the first time and was a happy girl right till the end.

RIP Moreton Ilex.

I am so sorry for your and your mums loss not much I can say to help but it does get better in time and one day you will be able to look at pictures of her and smile. Huge (((hugs))) to you and everyone else affected by the news x

Thanks everyone.
Our rider came in and told me just as I'd woken up. I'm more sad for my Mum because I know how much Ilex ment to her.
I'm utterly shocked, it was a long walk to her new yard (we had to park and walk, stupid lorry gets stuck) ad for the first time yesterday I walked her in hand on my own and felt a really strange feeling.
I was never Ilex's favourite person to be around, but it was just strange yesterday.

Me and the yard staff are absolutely gutted, I can't even imagine how Mum is feeling right now.
One day at a time I think. We're going away soon so hopefully it will help to get away from the horses for a bit.

So sorry for you and your mums loss, i no exactly what yous are going through, my boy also broke his pasturn in the field a couple of months ago. I know it was a huge shock to me and really feel for you both. (((((((((hugs))))))))))

Sorry to hear that Kao.
I remember you posting about her on TO and she looked a lovely lass. I know how fond you and your mum were of her.
What a terrible shock for you all.
RIP Ilex :(

How tragic :(

It may be worth you asking for a vet report, if it were my horse I would want to be totally certain of the facts, only because there are pretty immoral people around.

How utterly beastly for you, your mum and the poor loan people who will forever wish they hadn't turned her out. So sorry, thinking of you all.

I must admit I was thinking the same thing!

OP - I am so sorry for your tragic loss :( :(

I couldn't agree more but you put it so much better than I could.

OP, I'm very sorry for your loss but at least she didn't suffer. Silly people not keeping a new horse in and turning one of their own out that know the land better.

This. This is my "lesson" for today, and one I hope I won't forget in a hurry. What a terribly sad thing to happen.

So Sorry for your loss OP...

I had to read your post twice to take it all in, I cannot imagine what you and your Mum are going through. What an awful, awful shock. I really hope your Mum is ok and that you both start to feel less traumatised soon.
