Popping back in with an update, mainly so if anyone else is going through the same, they have a rough timeline to compare: the sicknote has now officially expired.
After packing with iodine and sugar for a few days, I turned him out barefoot, and have been scrubbing it morning and night to clean and treating with antibac. The shoe went back on tonight. Saddle goes on tomorrow!
