My 27 year old has come down with colic, shes had painkillers etc but if she relapses then myself and the vet have agreed it will be time to call it a day! Vibes please!!
Sending lots of <<<<<<<vibes>>>>>>>.
My 20 yr old had colic last week, vet & I had the same conversation, she seemed to be getting over it at 4.00 am, then at 8.00am she was down and groaning again. Vet came back (well different vet actually, 'cos it was daytime) gave her more painkillers and examined internally. She went for a walk down the lane and picked at grass, then another relapse as she stopped eating. Vet back again at 6.00pm, we got her eating again with grassnut mash and she is absolutely fine now, fingers crossedX.
Be guided by your vet but give her a chance to get over it in her own time. Our then 25 yr old had colic for 3 days about 6 yrs ago, with a relapse just into emergency callout time, every evening. She's still with us, although retired now.
I do hope yours gets over it as well as ours both did.
Thanks shes already got very bad cushings, copd, numerous pollen allergies and cataracts developing in both eyes so if she relapses then i will do whats right by her! Shes a bit of a medical marvel and very stubborn, she wouldnt swallow the tube for about ten minutes and had blood pouring out of her nose, stables a bloodbath very traumatic for both of us and realistically i cant afford a huge huge vet bill for an elderly semi retired horse with her problems, so hoping this is it x
I'm in the same boat! my 22 yr old came down with it too at 4pm, he had to be sedated he was kicking that violently. Been checking every two hours and he's now up and eating a bit of hay.
Fingers crossed your horse is ok.
That tube up the nose is huge!, she must of poured 10 litres of fluid in him.
Never had a horse colic before, my vet seems to think its a case of the cold/snow then warmer weather plus they are in one minute out the next.
Poor old girl, hope she gets better, my old cob had a bad colic at 33, we thought his time was up, but he got over it and had another good three years! x
