So another update, Snowy was last ridden a while ago (years) hes been lunged and although forward going was very good:) YOs Son had a go first and pony soon realised what he was doing and quite happily bombed around the school with his head getting lower and lower..... eventually rider got his act together and rode him properly, also said he would like to use him as a Games pony which I sure he would be brilliant at!! Anyway got my son on board (on lead rein) and had a good walk round and said he would like to trot, well erratic Shetland trot + Laughing uncontrollably Child = Child sliding out the side door!! Got back on and tried again, much better!!!
I took a few pics and short vids. We are going to try a kimblewick as I put him in a snaffle and turns out he was ridden in a Pelham, bit much for a 6 year old boy so a kimblewick we shall try.

I think we need a crupper and grass reins. Ah how I love ponies!!!!

Hes also losing weight, he fat pads on his bum are no longer rock hard and are getting smaller!!! Woohoo!!!

Thanks for looking! :)

Gorgeous - when I have the space, I will have a rescue shetland. I adore Titchy and Snowy, these vids and updates of kids learning to ride on them are just brilliant ! i think Snowy needs those grass reins.:D

Lovely pictures they both look happy and relaxed, the pony doesn't look like a Shetland to me - I would say he was a Welsh section A.....

He's a standard Shetland, bred on the Shetland Islands from a Shetland stud, I'd be surprised if he was Welsh! Lol
They seem to be getting on which is a relief! :)

For a Shetland he looks very unshetlandly! Lovely but a tall Shetland!

I know what you mean, he's a full up 42"/ 10.2hh, I should mention my son is 6 so not overly big himself :) he's also lost a bit of weight since we've had him so looks less porky! Haha!

I will keep posting updates on their journey together :)

You can improvise on the crupper if you have a spare small running martingale about. I padded the girth loop with vet wrap, shortened the strap and used a snap clip in the 2 rings to attach it to the saddle.

Snowy is so lovely, well done your little boy! hehe, he looks nothing like a Sec A. Lots of people arent used to seeing a proper up to height shetland these days as so many studs have lost height in their breeding. He isnt a hugely chunky type but then there are different 'types' emerging too. Ive found the ridden types tend to be a bit longer legged too.. some gorgeous ones here!

This! The little grey is exactly what he looks like ridden! Mind he is 21 years old and hasn't done anything for years so has no muscle and is in very soft condition :) I've seen photos of him in his glory days and he looked stunning! Hopefully we will take him back to his glory days, just a little older :-P
