Vile vile weather

We're under a weather warning for rain until 3am 😪 I have no more space to dry waterproofs between dogs & horses everything is permanently soaked 😭

Mine live out 24/7 on grass livery in a 40 acre field. It's sopping wet but bearable simply because it's such a vast space. Older one is rugged, youngster isn't but is like a wooly mammoth. They want to be out and on the extremely rare occassion they come on to the yard for something, they cart me back to the field. Everywhere in Cheshire is underwater. Never had weather this relentlessly wet. Utterly had enough of it now but it just won't stop.
I live in Cheshire and have never known weather like it. Drove home on New Year's Eve from a friend's house down the A 34 and it was really bad. The water was so deep in places my car struggled to get through.
Luckily my old boy is on retirement livery so don't have to make the 8 mile journey every day

We’ve had a bit of dry weather today and thank goodness the flooding in the school has subsided and hasn’t caused as much damage as I was dreading. It is raining again however 😡

It's chucking it down here just got horses in and it's in for the night so I will put them back out in the morning.

It's then meant to be dry but I won't hold my breath 🙄

Absolutely chucking it down currently, started at about 6pm. The fields were already struggling even though they are normally free draining. The drain down the centre of the yard wasn't emptying when I left so God knows if the stables will flood. Absolutely ridiculous.

Beth Chatto’s garden near me posted these rainfall stats earlier today…..

“2023: 955.5mm
2022: 514mm
2021: 617mm
2020: 577mm
2019: 560mm
2014. 832mm

Beth began recording the rainfall from 1953/1954 (in inches) and looking back through these records today, we can see that 955.5mm for 2023 is the second highest rainfall record here since 967.5mm in 2001. Our usual rainfall totals are between 500mm - 620mm which make us one of the lowest in the UK. By comparison, Tel Aviv, Israel has 530mm on average.”

No wonder it seems wetter than usual!!

Thankfully on part livery pouring with rain when I left the office at 5pm and didn't go to the yard. We are lucky as not on clay at the yard and the water tends to drain well from the fields. We have yard staff living on site so no problems so even if localised flooding someone should be there to the horses in. Bert loves rolling in mud he is a real hippo and rolls in the mud patch every day. We still have grass and a large rested field to move them on to if their field gets too muddy. Next week looks dry though.

I figure I now have a week to get the project used to a rug, then she’ll be very happy to be dry and wearing it when it starts raining again!

We were supposed to be having a dry week here in Cheshire but it rained last night and it's raining now 🤦🏻‍♀️ I think I'll give up checking the forecast. It is supposed to be going colder at the weekend so we'll see...

i was so relieved to see the forecast, no rain for days. Its blooming raining again in cheshire.
