It belonged to my pony and has been sat unused in a trunk since about 1988. It’s in very good practically new condition complete with belly straps.

Just looked at Lavenham website for a price check and they’re around £300 new!

Part of me wants to keep it for old times sake but I’ve really no use for it. I’m off to the Merrist Wood tack sale tonight to sell some stuff.

Opinions please- Should I sell it or keep it and is it worth more than a standard quilted rug? ;) :D
 
There are a few people out there like me that actively seek out and love these old rugs but we don't tend to pay much for them, I think the last Lavenham rug I bought was under a tenner. There was a little bidding flurry on a Chaskit under rug recently on eBay but I don't think even that hit £11

The only older rugs that are seriously sought after are the Chaskit turnouts really

I'd personally keep it

...or let me know if its 5ft or under....

Lordy lordy, why are they so expensive now? The turnouts are £475!

(I had a chaskit spider rug for my pony when I was a kid, they were quite brilliant compared to the other things on the market)
 
Why don't you get it turned into something else. I have a thematex that has never been used, its got my initials on it so I am going to turn it into a throw for my bed.
Would it make, dog blanket/bed, bags etc? Retro is in people will pay a fortune for old looking things. I would keep it, once its gone its gone and you could not replace it.
I have a hand stitched Moss Bros hacking jacket that I bought for £3, my daughter wore it as a very slim teen, I would never sell it.

£630 if you want the neck to go with it. Surely no one pays £630 for a horse rug ?
 
Well I've still one of the original Lavenham turnout rugs but haven't used it for many years,. Unfortunately they weren't waterproof! Any offers?
 
I hate to say it, but I had a little look on the website and I am struggling to see why people would spend so much money on these rugs! And people at my yard frown upon me for my Bucas addiction :D
 
It was the first quilted rug I ever saw and the owner of the ex racer I had on loan many years ago bought him a blue one, it was a lovely surprise to turn up at the yard and see him standing in his stable wearing it, it started a bit of a trend as a few other liveries went and bought one as well.
 
The rug I need question. I can’t believe that they were that expensive when they first came out.

They look like new Sussexbythesea! Just show's that the quality of products now days aren't like they used to be :(

Keep them SussexbytheSea - you'll regret it if you let them go.

I don't think they were that expensive when new (though never cheap) - they were the first cross-over surcingle rugs to be widely available in Britain. Some of the comments from the err, more traditional of that era were 'interesting' - 'new-fangled idea, how on earth do they stay on etc'
 
Keep it! I have two Lavenham Cosy's (they are the lighter blue rug). They were the go to rug of their day. The surcingles always unclipped themselves though which was annoying.

That Cottage Craft headcollar is in good condition, I had two of those as well!

*feels nostaligic*
