walk, trot, canter - percentage on a hack?

On a typical hack - I am lucky enough to ride mostly on bridleways rather than roads - I would say we do about 80% walk, 15% trot, 5% canter and that is where conditions allow.
Do enjoy the scenery on a loose rein in walk, must admit.
Just wondering how that compares to others? What do you do?
 
At the moment, about 50% walk, 50% trot but now it's drying up and the short canter strip is better, 50% walk, 45% trot and 5% canter :)
 
Depends on the route and what I'm doing. This afternoon we did about 20% canter, 50% trot, 30% walk but it was only over 9km. Trying to increase the time spent in trot and canter but with roads, traffic and slippery downhill bits, it can be tricky.

Longer hacks normally entail a higher walk % - say 40-50%, but again, depends on the route - one hack is about 15km and only about 20% has to be in walk (and I rarely walk if I have the option of a canter!). Unfortunately dufus had a right paddy last time I took him that way on his own and I'm still building up to trying it again! Used to do a lovely route when I was a teen that was 90% canter, 10% walk :eek: :D )
 
usually for me its 25% walking ,50% trotting sideways with his tail in the air like a twit and 25% cantering and jumping like fools through the woods :D:D
 
generally for me it's 95% walk 5% trot as dont canter on the roads. However.....if there is any kind of van present it is more like 10% walk 80% bouncy slightly sideways trot.....Chico and vans do not get along!
 
Depends, when fitter probably 50% walk, 25% trot, 20% canter and 5% gallop.

Though she does have a really annoying habbit of knowing when shes half way home and doing a fancy and snorty jog/sideways lateral movements. She's 21 and really should know better ;)
 
At the moment mine is nearly all walk with a bit of trot. It is far too wet and muddy to get up to a canter. Not too worried as hoping it will dry up soon, plus ponies haven't done very much over the winter so being brought back into work nice and slowly.
 
are we talking time % or ground covered % - we are different, sometimes I walk all the way, sometimes we flat out gallop for about 30% (ground coverage) But an average hack, I walk down hills, trot, canter or gallop up hill dependant on the ground ( I live in the hills so very little flat stuff ). But it really does depend on how we are feeling on the day :D
 
Err, is it just me who spends 0-1% in trot?? I probably walk 85%, canter 15% distance wise on a 'nice' hack.

If I'm actually out for a purpose, I probs walk 50%, trot 40%, canter 10%...but that's rare! :D
 
5% walk, 35% trot, 60% canter, would be about average. One horse returning to work does 50/50 walk trot, having been mainly walking for a while.
 
It depends! I usually ride out with a friend who kind of dictates how we go (don't mind that and we are working on us being in the lead) - which would be 90% walk, 7% trot and 3% canter. But I'd rather do a bit more trotting, really. Also depends on conditions underfoot, of course.

With my previous horse (I would ride alone more often) it was more like 40% walk, 40% trot and 20% canter.
 
Probably about 95% walk.

We don't have many canter spots, and for the sake of manners I don't canter every time an opportunity presents. And since most of our hacking is roads it is mostly walk, with just a few trots to get out of the way of traffic or on uphill stretches. Sometimes I do 100% walk, call me boring but it is relaxing. I would do more faster work if we had suitable routes.
 
Probably about 50% walk, 30% tolt, 10% trot, 5% canter, an occasional gallop, a bit of valhopp a bit of pig pace and another bit of 'will you sort your bloomin legs out and decide what you are doing'
We'd canter more if the bits of verge were more than 10 yards long.
 
Some of you must have great hacking ! Mine is 90% walk 10% trot as trying I get her fitter after time off for bad weather, but it is all roads/lanes near me, nowhere to canter at all. Have to use the school or box somewhere really for decent hacking
