I was wondering if you also had any good suggestions for waterproof trousers you can ride in?... I have those waxed full chaps, but if it rains your bum gets wet, and they aren't very warm

I am seriously considering the Mountain Horse alaska overall which is like the ultimate water/wind/cold proof baby grow for adults! but I think maybe I need a middle ground just a good pair of warm, suede/clarino seated over trousers to ride out in on days when wearing just breeches means you end up wity purple thighs!

any recommendations?....

I know this is not a CR themed post but I like you guys, and am scared of being lynched in any other section!!!!

I have a pair of Toggi ones, very waterproof, but not quite so warm, apart from the fact they have kept you dry, not to bulky so fab to ride in.
I also have a Joules pair, very good slightly bulkier as warmer.
And for freezing freezing days and just hacking out I pull out a pair of ski trousers!!
 
I will have a google for them it's time i invested I have tried wearing tights, long johns, leggings etc under breeches and then full chaps on top but I just end up packed in so tight I can hardly move, and I don't think that makes you any warmer! maybe ill scout about on ebay for old ski trousers!!!!

i've got a new pair of Pikeurs with full seat which are supposed to be waterproof and windproof, they're fleecy lined and very warm, so far so good. not silly money either.
tbh having tried full-seat over trousers (can't remember the make, but they aren't waterproof even though they're supposed to be, grrr) i think the bulkiness of two pairs of thick trousers is really unhelpful if you actually do need full seat (for stickability on youngsters, or for flatwork), hope that makes sense!

[/ QUOTE ] are these breeches or over trousers?... yeah I hate the bulk but would only be wearing them to hack out in it's more to stop me turning into an ice cube as I brave the wet and windy wilds of salisbury plain!
 
OOH OHHH I WANT THEM!!!! They look mega, too good to be true?... are they really waterproof?....they look ideal no bulk but good warmth and windproof, can you tell I'm a total woose about the cold?...

No idea! It did not rain...snow, yes, but rain, no!

They are my fave riding trousers for winter now though, no bulk! And the fleecy lining is lovely!! Mine are slightly different from that being the kids cheapo ones - and I'd say def water repellant (having tipped buckets down myself!!), not sure how amazing they'd be in torrential downpours?

Eeee!! Sorry, got excited by your link to Toggi website.....i designed it, it's only been live a few weeks, nice to see people using it!!
Oh and yes, the Toggi overtrousers are good, i was modeling them in the office the other day!
 
I know, it was a bit of a nightmare catagorising everything :s Did you see the old one.....it was very bad.....

[/ QUOTE ] hahahhaahha SC you must think I'm Bear Grylls, the slightest bit of drizzle and I'm cowering the the stable so there's no way I would be braving it in torrential downpours unless I got caught out, then I would probubly find a tree to park up and hide under till it passed! you adventure racing types are hard core!

I like them at just over £80 I think I might invest

Drizzle they are well up for! Mine are fine in light rain - must say though it has not been cold enough to ride in them yet, they are mega-warm. They also cope with accidental spray from the hose if you manage to catch yourself when hosing off legs!

I wore them all last winter for work, riding my own horses, riding out at a racing yard and washing horses for hunting etc. They are still 100% waterproof (had them on today) and withstood me spilling a mug of coffee in my lap driving when I had to perform an unscheduled gear change. They are on the short side for me, but I have a 35" inside leg and they're made for jockeys. I even wear them when it's cold but dry and in the office

. They are slightly slippery but don't rustle and I never slipped off any of the bronking racehorses!
 
QR - the Rambo waterproof padded trews which SC mentioned are really warm and cosy and deffo have a full seat. Mountain Horse also do a set which if anything like their vision gloves will be wonderfuly if pricey!
 
Another vote for the Ornella Prosperi waterproofs. I have had quite a few pairs. The padded ones worn with nothing (well kind of

) underneath are fabulous. In a different league to the ordinary Toggi etc types. Not bulky but very cosy. They are quite snug but I wear long ski socks & then half chaps with these over the top.

Have literally ridden hundred & hundreds of racehorses out in them and they are brilliant.

p.s I dont like the matching jackets from OP though, the elastic at the bottom is too strong & they ride up your back.
 
i take that back about the Pikeurs, mine got properly rained on for the first time today and they are NOT waterproof or even water-resistant.

humph. the search continues. there is a make of scandinavian riding trousers, will have to look for them again, they looked mega.
