Having had a GREAT day at the Annual Irish Draught Breed Show last Sunday, today was our big Mare Inspections Day. I had two fillies forward for grading, and 5 mares for Hornby Premium judging, so as you can imagine, there has been LOTS of washing, grooming and plaiting since the Breed Show. As we were a venue, we didn't have transport to worry about - but had to get the place spick and span - everything mucked out, and the final spit & polish done by 9.30 am when the Inspectors were due.
I'd HOPED for 3 Hornby Premiums, I was confident Princess would grade RID - but not very confident of Ripple grading AID (although she is 3/4 ID she has thrown a bit TB in type.)
So it started:
Princess graded RID with an excellent score for a 2 year old (120 out of 145 - only 2 points behind Maggie's score at the same age!)
Ripple graded AID (which means that if her foal by Avanti Amorous Archie is a filly, it WILL be eligible to be graded RID.)
Corraslira Lady got her 3rd Hornby Premium - she is now a Hornby Select mare as well as an Irish 'Premier Broodmare'!
Little Dawn didn't quite make it - she's only 4 and had lost quite a bit of topline feeding a greedy filly foal - but that's fine - her day will come. Her full sister Pride (a year older) got her first Hornby!
And then it was Maggie's turn! She has always been one of my favourites - and I was disappointed she wasn't placed at the Breed Show on Sunday. She made up for it today, winning her first Hornby Premium with the exceptional score of 133 (out of 145) which was the highest mark scored on the Southern Tour. 'Over the Moon' is NOT an overstatement of my feelings tonight!
So I'm VERY proud of my lovely mares - and exceptionally proud of my super team of staff and helpers, who were very much complimented by the Inspectors for the turnout of the horses and how well they were presented.
Brag over - tomorrow it's back to normality and sh*t shovelling!
And this is my 'new' Hornby Select mare, Corraslira Lady (Karina)
