Right, it has taken me forever to get these photos uploaded!!
Anyway this is just a warning to everyone with horses please tell everyone about these Clip buckets!! PHOTOS ARE A BIT GRAFFIC
This is my future star colt 3yr old, we almost lost everything because of this Clip bucket - this is the clip that the bucket attaches too:- http://www.derbyhouse.co.uk/prodshow.asp?id=803&cat=312&scats=312 . He was a GIT with tipping his water bucket over every night, not only did this get his bed sopping wet but he had no water through the night and would be thirsty in the morning. I got so fed up a friend said get a Clip (on the wall) bucket he wont tip that! so out I went spent loads of money and vwallar he couldnt tip the bucket, he had water all night and a dry bed. Few weeks later he started to try and pull the bucket of the wall, couple days later I went out to find that he had not only succeeded in undoing the bucket but he had caught his bottom lip in the clip and had ripped over 8 of his bottom lip clean off and ripped some of the inside at the corner where the bit sits. Now you could say stupid person for using it but they are classed as SAFETY buckets and a lot of people use them, but seeing how accident prone horses can be I should have seen the danger, but unfortunately we just dont.
Vet was called yet the bloody receptionist told the vet that it was a little scratch so I had to hold his torn lip for an hour and 30mins, it went cold and half died.
The photos below are of when he first did it and then when he came back from surgery (and the half had rotted and died off) he has just had his 3rd operation and it looks a lot better you wouldnt really know anything has happened, but I havent got a picky yet), thankfully he can be bitted but im not sure how he will be in the dressage arena as it does look as if hes mouth is partly open when bitted, my vets have agreed to write a letter so I can show judges, he never opens his mouth with a bit and is very good, but due to the amount of lip he has left I cannot use a flash thank god he doesnt need one.
Subsequently he doesnt tip his buckets now and has just a rubber water bucket that he NEVER touches a bit of a drastic lesson and a very expensive one too.
