Hi,
Just wanted to share my frightening experience with you and hopefully stop some one being badly injured.
I was schooling my mare on Tuesday just the usual as I was cantering, she lost her balance (she is just a youngster) as she did that I lost my stirrup when this happened she panicked and I started to fall. I always ride with a hat but only recently started using gloves.
When I fell off got up and thought great no prob feel fine right hand was sore and pinkie was at a funny angle but thought it was staved. Anyway got back on had a go at everything hand was beg to get sore and very swollen.
left it overnight as wasn't that sore, but by lunch following day was getting very back 5hrs in a&e later and I have made a real mess of my hand shattered a bone which had been moved on top of my knuckle. I am now in a huge cast with a possibility of surgery(bones have been manually moved at mo)
Surgeon explained it is a twist injury I went one way twisting as Rosie went the other, if I hadn't had gloves on the reins would have ripped the skin from my hand or the bone would have went through my skin. My leather gloves saved my injury from being much much worse. I will now always wear gloves.
Just wanted to share my experience in the hope this can help someone else, I was very lucky was such a freak accident.
thanks for reading this long post
