I bought my pony eighteen months ago, he was a pity buy as he was absolutely ravaged by sweet itch and his last owners were struggling as they had an awful midgey field. I've struggled with his condition since but the sweet itch is under control

A young HHO-er (L) has come over every weekend during the autumn and winter to diligently walk him out, groom him and continue his education so to have something to look forward to we set a date for a show and last Saturday we set off in a hired box for a day out, me as their groom for the day and L's mum as moral, practical and canteen support!

Their first class was the best conditon class which I knew was a long shot as Milo doesnt have great topline plus he is growing out a clip and has rug rubs but they took it seriously, did a beautiful trot up and came away with a rosette

Next was the M&M class where Milos lack of maturity and topline went against him

Last was the junior handler class which was split in to two age groups, L won her section so I was thrilled for her, all of the hard work and practice paid off :)

All in all we had a great day out. The judge was excellent and very helpful. L did brilliantly and pony behaved very well - you cant ask for much more :) I think L deserves some positive comments as I dont think she realises what a good helper she has been and the positive effect she has had on Milo :)

Pics are a little fuzzy due to the distances involved (L's mum has given her permission for pics to be posted)

Thanks all they had a great day out. Very tiring though - not easy getting a grey clean at the best of times!

Well done! His coat looks in lovely condition now, what did you use for the SI?

Sorry - just digested this comment! We have used a multi pronged approach.

Regular bathing
A decent sweet itch rug or turnout with neck pretty much 365 days a year, its very rare that he gets a completely naked day sadly
Oil in the mane and tail over the sweet itch season (must be one with a sunscreen!)
Deosect fly spray
cream over his sheath and inside his back legs
Fly Free supplement
Brewers yeast in feed
low sugar diet in the summer, fibre and oil only, no conventional sugary treats either not even carrots
