Wear High Vis - even in the summer...

Just like Pastry, I am a perect rider as well, just like Mary Poppins "practically perect in every way" but for the reasons stated by Hairyjob, I always wear HiViz when out hacking, not in the menage or jump field at the yard though.

Corrrrr blimey, going out in the dark as dark as Dick Van Dyke covered in soot singing Chim Chimeny chim chim cheroo with no viz on is for nutters, all together now, just a spoonfull of sugar.............................

its pastie2 actually, as you well know, has she said that she is a perfect rider- NO!! so stop stirring the proverbial-is this your attempt at humour, if so its in poor taste!!

I watched a horse (a straying youngster in this case) being put to sleep a couple of weeks ago after a car hit it. Car didn't look good either, and the family who had been in it were in total shock. Not a sight I'd care to repeat, so think I'll stick with my hi-viz, if there's even the slightest chance that it might save an accident from happening.

Its Pastry here Pedantic, its a good job that the Hi Vis topic crops up so often, it gives you a chance to offer some input! Dont knock Pastry or Dosie as you wouldnt have a reason to vent your venom! Why dont you post an interesting thread of your own, instead of answering everyone elses with a sarcastic quip. You are so right in your saying, " Nation of ********s". were you refering to your self by any chance?

It's Pedantipants here, cooooeeee, :D:D Love it Piecrust, definately should have got a bigger bag of popcorn, about finished this one :D

No point in me posting an interesting topic on here, as that would discriminate against the ones who aren't intelligent enough to understand it;), then the offendergasmers go off to Admin on the grounds of discrimination, now that would never do as I never discriminate against anyone, my venom is freely available to all :p

Oooo, just love your nickname for yourself, I was thinking of one myself for you, it would not have been allowed sadly. Having looked into your previous posts, if I were you I should relax and post as many as you like. I dont thinkthat intelligence has anything to do with your posts, so by the same token it wont take intelligence to read them! Your venom is so obvious to us all. Lots of love from Pastry/Piecrust!

I don't normally post about Hi Viz as I don't hack. But someone mentioned hikers, climbers etc.

All those out in the country should wear visible clothing in case of an accident. This was drummed into me way back when I did my Brownie badge for Rambling! They should also carry a torch, let someone know where they are going and when they are going to be back and carry supplies in case they get stranded.

Back then the way to do it was normally to pack a brighly coloured kagoule that could be used to keep warm/dry/attract attention/sit on/scare bullocks away from the gate/make you visible on the roads. We also carried a torch, whistle and a reflective exposure bag/blanket.

Now the makers of outdoor clothing are becoming more aware. No longer are coats olive green or brown, with matching sludge coloured rucksacks. My rucksack and my bum bag have reflective strips and one (a really old one actually) is bright orange. Many outdoor coats have reflective strips on and they are often colours that don't blend in. I often pick blue for hill walking coats as it should show up easily against the grass/mud/rock, but red or orange works well too. I still carry a torch, whistle and a silver reflective exposure blanket, but now have a mobile too.

The mountain rescue are unpaid volunteers. I hope to god that I never have to make use of their services but if I do I want their job to be as easy and risk free as possible. I couldn't live with myself if they risked injury because they couldn't find me easily.

The only person I know who has had to use the services of the mountain rescue was a very experienced climber - experience knowledge and skill cannot always save you. He was unlucky, anyone can be unlucky, and you have to do everything you can to ensure that you aren't lying in pain/dying while the mountain rescue/air ambulance/coastguard struggle to find you.

Since the introduction of hi viz ..more people have been involved in incidents / accidents while wearing hi viz than people not wearing hi viz ? Also the number of accidents has not reduced and the trend is still upward.

Therefore, unless more people wear hi viz than those that do not , I'm affraid it would appear that you are no safer with your hi viz on when that maniac comes along as he /she will be blind to you whatever your wearing.

Bit like speed camera's they do not stop speeding or reduce accidents , but they do generate cash.

Propaganda sells ...that's why hi viz sales are up .

And your source for these comments are?...

Banter. I paid about £3 for my hi vis and I've had it yeaaaars. So tbh as a money making scheme, it fails.

I can assure you Ped you wouldnt want to know, not pm.ing dont trust you not to grizzle about it!!!!!

Did someone on this thread get upset about people making personal comments a bit further up..........

We are just jokeing yorksG, trying to lighten the situation up. Its just a bit of banter, there is no harm in it. Give it, take it, or leave it.

Oh I don't mind banter, but it sticks in my craw a little when earlier on the thread some-one was getting VERY huffy about what people were saying and then starts making very personal remarks. Ok when they are doing it but not when others make comments, hey ho
