Noticed over the last couple of years that more and more people are going XC without wearing stocks.
Personally I think every little helps when it comes to support, but I realise that probably the support given by a stock in a fall is neglible!
What do you do?

I wear a stock, I was always told it was warn incase of injury to your horse, and you can wrap it round there leg to hold the pressure of the injury.

I think I'd feel naked without mine on anyway (She says, having not been XC for over 12months, and before that not for about 5 years!

I never used to tbh as I had vision of falling off and the pin stabbing me in the jugular and me bleeding to death before the ambulance could reach me

My vivid imagination as calmed down a little and I do now actually wear one as I like the support it gives.

LOL at icestationzebra!
I'm more worried about making sure I've shaved my legs and that I'm not wearing horrific underwear just in case I fall and need chopping out of my jods

I pretty much always wear my stock xc (pin removed) out of habit and knowing that it does give that little bit extra of support. My neck feels quite bare without it and it doesnt feel right.

Always wear a stock-makes me feel fully protected, like wearing a body protector! I do take the pin out though as yes-fear of it sticking in my throat if I fall off-yuck!

always for comps, it not ment to save neck, but will help your windpipe, so therefore will not get winded so easierly. That why pre-tied ones should be burnt!!!

I wear one of the Rodney Powell support stocks (without a pin). Fell off once at Gleneagles HT and doctor thought it probably stopped me getting whip lash. Hence never go x-country without it now!

I also have one of those padded support stocks, i would never go XC without it now! Last weekend i forgot it, and typically Sunny lunged in the air and i left my head behind, and now have a very sore neck! I think the stock would have probably stopped that. It matches my colours aswell so i think i look cool, lol!

Apparantly they don't offer as much support as everyone thinks (from what I heard), I do wear mine whenever I'm hunting or hunter trialling though

I used to wear a padded stock after I suffered whiplash from one fall too many. For about a year after I wore the padded thing. It really helped at drop fences as without it my neck hurt!

Just wear a normal stock now for everything and take the pin off for XC. Pretty sure it doesn't offer any support, just deflects the mud splatters!
