Webbers vs. slimline stirrup leathers?

I have used webers for years. Funnily enough the cheaper Wintec ones lasted better than the Bates leather ones! No lumps under thigh, but you must make sure you get the right size as you can't punch extra holes in them!:rolleyes:
 
I bought prestige dressage leathers an absolutely hated them just didn't feel right an couldn't roll them up either.
Ended up with the stubben bonded ones they are very soft so have not marked saddles either
 
I have a Wow saddle so have to use the Bates Webbers (Wow also make their own but havn't tried them.)

I loathe Webbers with a passion. I hate the fact they are a pain in the arse to roll up your stirrups, I hate that you need to use both hands to put your stirrups up when you're in the saddle, and I hate they are hard to put back on your stirrup bars when you take them off to clean them.

One point to note - you must get ther right size - the lump caused by where you put the T-bar into a hole and then cover it with the leather sleeve - MUST SIT BELOW YOUR FLAP. Otherwise not only will it hurt you leg but it will damage your flap by rubbing against it. I put ones that were too long to start with and had to endure the above until I could get hold of a shorter pair.

If I didn't have to use them on this saddle, I really, truly woudn't - I hate them!
 
Porkpie, you might get on better with Wow leathers, I hated the Bates ones but love my Wow ones.
Failing that, before I got my webbers I used my old (normal) leathers on my Wow, with the buckle end at the bottom. I rode like that for 3 months without a problem :)
 
I know why you're asking :D

I have a pair (Bates) and they are a pain in the backside and I don't think they are as safe as leathers. As far as wear goes, it doesn't make much difference but as above, the T bar needs to be below the bottom of the flap.

They are awkward to alter, and unsafe imo because you have to take your foot (feet) out of the stirrup and hold it in front of you to adjust (while trying to control the horse). Also, if you don't get the T bar exactly in right, there is a danger that it will slip out - happened to me when I was mounting = very surprised me and horse :o

They are also not recommended for jumping, which if you remember you are going to do soon and send me the photos :D;)

Thanks milliepops - I'll look into getting some then - the Webbers drive me insane!! I agree - they are not safe - just because you can't adjust them safely when on board - rediculous!
 
lol Rowreach - there will be pic evidence on the first attempt, I promise ;) I'm sure they'll be worth it for entertainment value!!

Thanks for the opinions guys. I've got a pair of Bates webbers at the minute which aren't too bad, but I do have a pair of Wintec webbers that I HATE (bought brand new and the holes don't even line up!). Does anyone have a brand they would recommend (will look up the wows), or has anyone tried the Bates stirrup leathers with the slimline buckle?
 
Bates leathers with the flat buckle are very good, though if you are going for a havanna saddle then they won't match as they are a bit orange (but I think you are going for black??).

And yes, I live to be entertained so I will hold you to that! :p:D

I'll look into the Bates ones then :) Are they likely to wear the skirt more than webbers would do, or is the buckle really that flat?

As for saddle colour, I like to be awkward so we're having a black AND havana one ;) In regards to pics, I haven't jumped in the best part of 7 years and pone has never jumped under saddle - keep an eye out, I promise it will be entertaining! :o
 
The Bates leathers are nicely shaped so won't rub too much (although any will a bit). Oh dear you will have to buy two pairs then won't you? :D:D If you make friends with your agent they may get them for you at mates rates.
 
I have Prestige webbers and I do really rate them. I was a bit sceptical initially, wondering if they really would make much of a difference but I must say that my leg does feel much closer to the saddle.

I do have regular stirrups on my jump saddle though, for reasons of safety.

I think mine are the WoW ones though. I ride all different lengths depending my my mood/confidence, riding discipline etc. and it's a real bum ache (literally sometimes) to change. Mine have a top hole about 2 inches from the top that is supposed to be for putting them up, put they just end up looking like someone has fudged it :D

Hadn't realised slimline leathers existed, might have to have a scout now!
