This feels like a charade at this stage, as both my ridden horses are complete swamp monsters at the moment.
We haven’t had a day without rain since the start of the year, winter really is wintering… 🫠

Biggest achievement last week was getting the arena groomed, followed promptly by days of rain, so that was largely pointless 😅 at least my drainage is good, the arena hasn’t so much as had surface water on it yet.

Local power company are out wrecking our fields again tomorrow… sorry, doing some essential maintenance, so no doubt we will have a bit of a tidy up to do after that.

Current DIY project (refurbishing roof trusses in stables lol) is due to finish by next weekend, so I’m hoping that means I’ll be able to get the lads into a routine again.

Goals for spring:
Get out to a dressage comp
Go and do some xc schooling (I have a couple of all weather venues nearby)
Join local riding club

That’s the best I can do for now. 😅

I was going to do groundwork this evening but there was a new arrival and it was raining and Sadie was in FOUL FORM.

Perhaps tomorrow. Perhaps not. Perhaps never again.

I do have progress towards a goal tho! Booked my first trailer lesson in a few weeks and got a quote for putting a towbar on the car 🎉

You know what I don’t think it’s rained today at all during waking hours but Sod’s law I was at work till 4.30, then only had an hour to play ponies as had a football meeting this evening. So that hour was spent feeding, mucking out, topping up water and stuffing haynets. Gave both boys a neck scratch and a few treats then hightailed it. Full day again tomorrow and teen daughter on duty.

Wednesday - planning a short hack, probs about 10km at a decent 8km/hr pace
Thursday - longer 2.5 hour hack a bit steadier
Saturday - weather depending heading to a local outdoor to do some pole work and practice trotting/pacing up in hand which may be interesting in readiness for our first PR trot up next sunday
Sunday - short hr hack only as it’s daughter 16th birthday and family visiting

I've accepted that for a while we've become weekend warriors which equates to a walk out around the roads on Saturdays and Sundays as the fields are so slippy its not fun.
I still nearly got tipped out the side door on Sunday as there was something in the hedge :D
I've also substituted weekday riding for MOT so Friday was saddle fit check, did ride a little bit for that, yesterday was vet and today is the farrier. So that's 5 days in a row she's done something.
We've got a 4-day clinic and a 2-day clinic coming up unless they get rained off so hopefully that will get us into March reasonably on track. YO might be able to start working her once a week for me when we get to March as well.

Sunday we went arena eventing, 2nd leg in a league Im currently in.
Golden pony was super duper, lovely relaxed flatwork test, clear showjumping and clear xc for 2nd. :)
Then when I got home I finally gave my jumping mare a jump in prep to get her out this weekend to jump some 110/120s.

All in all a great weekend :)IMG_6366.jpegIMG_6351.jpeg

I'm re-joining as pony developed a cough in January and then I lost motivation so gave him an extra 10 days off 🤣 We've been back doing stuff but need to grt a bit more structured again.

Yesterday: Day off so barefoot trimmer appointment
This morning: What I call continous intervals. The number varies according to fitness but today was - 3 x walk warm up laps on each rein, then 5 laps trot, 1 lap walk, 5 laps trot, 1 lap walk & change rein and repeat. Then 1 lap canter, 1 lap walk, 2 laps canter, 1 lap walk, 3 laps canter on each rein. Then 2 laps trot on each rein and then walk laps to cool down.

The plan for the rest of the week is:

Tomorrow: Hoping for a brisk, mainly in trot 5kish hack
Thursday: Probably either another shorter brisk hack or lunging over poles
Friday: Whatever I don't do Thursday!
Saturday & Sunday: Aiming for x 2 10-15km hacks.l we have lots of hills ao will be slower than our mid-week hacks.

We'll see how close we get 🤣
