Super chuffed with Bog. For the grids he came out like a total lunatic (great when I’m still feeling like I’m on a boat and basically sea sick). Then he jumped around here where it’s mostly a 1m/1.05 course and although the leads sometimes aren’t right the instructor has us focusing on the canter and keeping the forward momentum. So even chipping in on the last it wasn’t “drastic” and didn’t scare the heck out of me.

I know this is far from perfect but it put some demons to bed and I think I’ll try again and tick that 100 box before we go to the states!

We are dressaging today. Early start so just about to go drag them in from the field so Jack has a chance to chill and dry off a bit before I plait.

4yo got his bandage off yesterday. Stitches come out next Friday.

Other than that I will be window shopping for a new addition as Blue is up for sale and it looks like Raz is possibly going to have to be retired due to his hock arthritis no longer responding to the steroid injections.

Clever Bog again. I am loving this canter!!! And I am committing to my decision to ride forward even if on the wrong leg rather than kill it (I know there is a split opinion on that!).

He feels absolutely mega at the moment and the instructor who last saw us a couple of months ago thought his flatwork was much improved which is nice.

Oh I could cry!!!

Had a fab hack the other day in my bareback pad. We went solo as my friends bailed and Tali gave me a beautiful canter along the beach, really steady and careful and then a dog came running up behind us and I turned around and was about to try and stop her and she must’ve felt me wanting to slow down and slowed herself and the dog was recalled and all was good.

today we had a dressage lesson and it was brilliant. The instructor was so good and we learned a lot. We’ve had a cold summer and Tali started getting her winter coat in July but since august it warmed up and the school felt very warm so we sweated a lot.

We haven’t been out in the box for weeks but Tali was fab and went in the box before her travel buddy for the first time on the way home. (Who also had a fab lesson!) it’s no much but the first time we did it that way around and I was so chuffed with her.

and then I put her back in the field and the tiny white lad kicked her in the knee ? I couldn’t see her obviously lame and there was no swelling. I cleaned it out and she was ok with me looking at it. She usually makes a big fuss when I go near sore bits but she was ok. We’re supposed to have dressage tomorrow so if she’s still sound tomorrow would you go or pass? Someone said to give her bute but I want to make sure she isn’t sore tomorrow morning and if she is I will give her some then. I will go back over again tonight and check on her but should I just pull out of tomorrow? If I didn’t have dressage I wouldn’t ride so don’t know if that’s my answer.

OMG... just home from BRC National Champs.
We won both the Novice and the Elementary!! ?

Absolutely amazed, wasn't expecting it at all, especially as only his second ever Elementary.

So 2 lovely sashes which made the 4 hour drive home today a bit easier, what a good boy!

Oh what a huge shame, more so after a few fab days.
I'd not bute tonight, see how any swelling is tomorrow morning. Difficult to see how deep it is here.
Keeping fingers crossed it's more minor and that she walks up sound tomorrow morning x

thank you @The Fuzzy Furry. I really appreciate the advice. It was a dull afternoon so hard to get a picture. Will see how she is doing in a bit and trot her up tomorrow.

Second BD show for Jack yesterday.

First time indoors at this venue so was a little look-y but quickly settled. He felt a bit too well in the first test ? so it was a bit messy but good enough for 1st in his section and 2nd overall with 64.60 - only 0.4% behind 1st.

The second test was thankfully much softer but still lovely and forwards so the new feed has definitely helped. First in his section again and 3rd overall this time with 67.71% so 4 more shiny points towards regionals.

So a good day, despite being left in the ? first thing by our new groom not turning up.
Why do people do that? ?

How deep is that wound? I would be tempted to have a vet look at that due to its placement over the joint. I have had 3 injuries to joints (2 from kicks one from a fence) and all have needed vet stays even looking very small so I am very careful with them now.

it doesn’t look deep. I think the impact pushed the skin up the way so hoping it wasn’t a good contact. I can’t feel much swelling this morning. She was walking out nicely and I trotted her in a circle on both reins and she looked good and didn’t protest at all. But I’m away on holiday on Wednesday so getting the vet out for peace of mind is probably a good idea. Thank you.

Just back from camp! On the Friday, I met up with @ycbm and the wonderful Ludo for a trip round the farm ride. It was ace! I had already said to her that I thought it would be the highlight of the weekend, and it was. Two kind, courteous riders riding two superb horses, neither of whom is well versed in riding in groups/pairs, but both of whom were champions.

ycbm was happy for me to set the pace, so we started with a stroll, then some trot, popping a few little fences, a canter with me in front, the beside each other, then with Ludo in front. Both horses attentive and responsive. We then jumped some XC fences with either of us leading. Fantastic training, thank you ycbm.

I have to say, Ludo is fabulous. He looked loose and powerful, and more horse that I was somehow expecting.

We then had a walk through the river, proud mummy moment as Homer led the way in, and... as we walked through the water, we saw no other than @photo_jo with her camera, in waders, right in the river. Hopefully I will be able to buy a copy of a photo of the moment and share it. It was nice to put a face to another HHO'er as I have bought photos from her before, but never actually met.

Saturday's morning SJ lesson didn't go to plan when a rider in our lesson fell off and needed an ambulance, after we had warmed up and jumped just 3 fences. We circled for a while but it was apparent that the lesson had to stop. I could have restarted another lesson later on in a different arena but, if H had to warm up again, he would have been dead on his feet, with a XC lesson still to go. So, we just went back to the stables.

XC started OK, but the ground was firm with the take offs and landings ringing. H is a youngster with big, immature joints, so we did a few fences, plus a splash in the water, and called it good.

Today we had just a grid lesson. It was fabulous. I finished there though as our XC lesson was much later in the afternoon and I have to unexpectedly work tomorrow, with a 3 hour journey home. Baby H is now in the field, relaxing, and I am washing lots of stuff. Mr Red is bemused that the horse stuff is washed first!

Just one photo, me and H, coming back from our lovely farm ride. What a fantastic facility, sandy tracks and inviting fences.

On the face of it, we didn't do much but I am still very happy as the farm ride with Ludo was hugely educational and fun, plus H took the whole camp experience in his stride. We did a little jumping, he ignored the other horses, we are home safe. The plan is to use up the rest of this shoeing and then pull the shoes and turn him away to grow up some. I am happy with where we are leaving him, he was a gamble to buy (bought off video from Ireland) but has been an amazing horse in the flesh and a pleasure to educate.

They were both such good boys, weren't they?

"You can go on and jump that one, I'll be fine", said Red. So I did, though it was far bigger than anything else we'd ever jumped ?

Homer is such a great example of the best of "proper" Irish horse breeding.

Really well done to those out and about. It sounds like you all had a wonderful time. I hope the injured ponies are just fine too.

Friday night hack was one of those where they are just so good for your soul and very lovely to catch up with my friend who I haven't seen whilst Amber was away. The lesson on Saturday was v useful; I'm not using my right leg, and when I think it's forwards and on the girth, it's actually about 4 inches behind it. So need to work on that a lot! The Sundays hack with our best buddies again, and we conquered the big field. Amber gave zero hoots and not even a jiggy jog or minor spook.

I hope the injured ponies are all ok. Sorry to hear you're having to sell BM :(

It was a fairly busy weekend here - we had the yard Summer dressage champs on Sunday and we'd qualified for the Intro and also entered our first Prelim in the open section, so I decided to work Chilli harder in the run up to see if that helped his tension. We schooled Tuesday and Wednesday, hacked Friday and schooled again on Saturday. Also picked up my lorry on Saturday after a successful MOT pass - it will be the last one with my 7.5T as my new 4.5T should be ready next month :D. Also had a friend staying who I roped into being my groom on Sunday, thankfully she was just glad to be out of London and around horses so didn't mind me bossing her around!

I don't think the harder work made much difference to Chilli, in fact I think it went the other way as he had a bit of a tantrum in the warm-up and I had to ride him very tactfully through the Intro for a tense 63.48%. I decided to go for the Prelim but head straight in, which was a risk but I was fully prepared for explosions and to retire if needed. Turns out he was actually so surprised at being asked to canter that he forgot his trademark leap :p We roughly did everything in the right place and the more extreme tension only manifested after the walk. We ended up with 65.38%, which I'll take given the challenges.

I'll stick the Prelim video in the 5/6yo thread if anyone's interested :)

wow michen, I've been absent from the forum for a while now, great to see bog looks amazing!!

Thank you!! He's on fire! I just had another vet check today as intended to have another dose of tildren before he goes to the states but we just couldn't do it, there's literally no lameness to see so we'd have been putting drugs and risk into him for no reason.

He's just had his pre flight testing very early because if he can't go to the states- neither can I :D

Oh wow, I have definitely missed a chapter-The states?? How exciting. Best wishes to you both. The equestrian scene over there looks so different to ours but those differences are fascinating. Fingers crossed it all goes to plan and he can hop on the plane. x
