We had a brilliant day out eventing. The sun was shining, and Coolie was feeling fabulous. He did a really sweet test, and I was so chuffed with it. He hates dressage, and often adds in extra moves but we don’t do much any more so in think not doing it has improved things.

He had 2 rails show jumping, deep footing and he felt a bit tired. The warm up was tiny too so hard to get a rhythm before going into the ring. He tried his best and I know he can go clear, it just happens.

XC, our first time in 4 years, I was very nervous. Since he hadn’t felt 100% himself sore jumping ib was just going to see how he felt in the warm up. He knew what was coming and was full of energy and feeling great. We jumped one warm up fence then into the start box where he stood calmly but I could tell he was ready to go!

He was on the job from the second we left the start box though was a bit backed off the first few fences. It was had to get into a rhythm with a very twisty start and a hard road crossing I bought him right back for, but once he settled into a rhythm I just steered and enjoyed the ride! He came home clear and a bit fast to finish 4th. I could have cried. I also won a rug for best and fairest which was lovely!

Everyone seems to be having a great weekend!

Bob was down at ALW for the OI yesterday! Managed his first chilled out dressage test of the season for 36.1, clear in the showjumping, then a steady cross country! Sadly no pictures as I was stuck working but I'll make it up next weekend as he's off to Burgham!

Umm DC why is your horse wearing pyjamas? ?
Please tell me more about the thing your horse is wearing???

?
It's a compression suit. He still has ports/hernias so he needs a bit of support to help the muscles heal or at least not deteriorate. He was wearing a corset before but I can't ride in that, plus it has started to rub, so the snazzy suit it is instead. He has one in black too ? I think it is very stylish (although I am going to use the red one mainly for turnout/overnight since it's a little too bold even for me!). We hacked in it yesterday, and got some intrigued looks from people ?

Super chuffed- not a whisper of any lameness in any limb soft/hard/straight/circle with Bog. He’s over 6 months post hock jab and still 100% after flexion.

My vet said he is in the best nick of his 6 years knowing him!

Very rewarding given his rather complex medical history ?

Thx for clarifying. TIL that there’s such a thing as a compression suit for a horse ?

Amber and I went to our trainers on Friday and had a private lesson. We must step up the collected work, which we can do. But doing so puts me at/close to the limit of my riding skills currently, and Amber starts to look for ways to escape the more challenging work. In the lesson, it was fine, everything dealt with clamly and positively and got some nice glimpses for the future. But part of this is that Amber needs to be ridden this way consistently for a while to start building up the muscles required. As it's on the limits of my riding ability, I can't achieve that consistency alone at home. So we agreed that she would stay with the trainer for the next month. It's 100% the right thing to do, but I feel sad about it; driving home with an empty trailer was awful.

On Saturday we had fun in the ranch riding clinic with friends, which was a lot of fun and a good reminder that when it comes to riding competition patterns, I need to calm down A LOT. I just get too excited and have far too much fun. :D It also highlighted a couple of week spots for the trainer to work on.

So I have a month with no pony to ride, I'll go over for lessons on the weekends, and I'm on holiday in the lake district next week, so the timing is right for her to be away. But it's going to be a slog.
I had a catch-up with Daisy and Aspen whilst I was there. They're both doing well and were happy to come for cuddles and treats.

Well done to all who went out and did wonderful things over the weekend! One day I will get myself round an event ... ?

Judging yesterday was good fun for the most part. My steward was brilliant when she got the hang of how I run my rings. Bless she said straight from the off that she was going through menopause so if I see her either stripping her jacket off or putting it back on every 2mins then not worry. I have absolutely no issue with wearing a comfy t-shirt or not wearing a bra, each to their own but we did have to have a bit of a giggle when it suddenly lashed down with rain and soaked her WHITE t-shirt through within seconds ?????

I had some lovely shetlands to judge. Some not so lovely shetlands to judge and one pony who was probably the best example of the breed in the ring but i could only put her 3rd because she was so disgistingly obese it was a cruelty case. And I told the owner this when i gave them their rosette. They said "not your cup of tea today then" to which I responded with "nope, I absolutely adore her, she is a real quality animal but she is far, far too fat. Far too fat. She needs to lose at least 100kg in weight and she will be at the top of the line up." They accepted it and said they would work a lot harder on her weight.

My mini champion was absolutely divine! A proper scaled down shetland with all the pizazz and cheek of the 3yo chestnut filly she is ?

In the rest of my various classes there were some truly wonderful animals and some that you just looked at and went "meh". They weren't bad animals but they didn't draw the eye or stand out for any reason. I was the last judge standing so I got the job of judging all of the supremes. My overall Supreme was one of the best moving, best put together Welsh Cobs i have seen up here in years! She was the very opposite of "meh"! She flew! She carried herself, she knew she was special and you couldn't not notice every inch of her.

So I started in the ring at 9.30am, I walked out the ring for the final time at 6.15pm in a torrential rain shower.

Yesterday would have been a perfect wee hack if it weren't for ALL THE SODDING HORSEFLIES. We ended up having to trot most of the four miles to get away from the little buggers. On the bright side, Blue was beautiful to trot - steady, relaxed, no rushing. It was our hacking buddy's first time out in a few months so we were expecting him to be a bit hairy, but he was just as perfect.

I love those two together - they give each other confidence, so they're both able to relax and enjoy themselves.

Today started off as a nightmare lesson. She was wiggly and backwards and stressed and so bad that I actually ended the lesson. Then my instructor suggested we just pop into the little school, rather than the big school, to see how she was in there, and the little madam was perfect. Turns out, she just objects to sharing a school with other horses, so that's something to work on!

She did manage to execute a perfect flying change, though. Okay, it wasn't asked for, it was only because she'd struck off on the wrong leg, and it was so enthusiastic that I nearly bounced out of the saddle, but it was clean and united. I've decided we're going to skip prelim and go straight for Prix St George. She clearly has ambitions.

Sunday did a be80 - i was terrified I would go blank in my dressage test but got through it - he was a good boy but it was quite hot and mr h was a bit flat which was reflected in our marks .
Went into the sj and I revved him up slightly too much (having had time penalties on previous outings) and we rolled the last pole.
Went clear xc with 0.8 time penalties (was delighted not to have got lost on the course / missed a jump out!).
To my complete surprise we came 6th! (if it wasn’t for the pole we’d have come joint 4th ?)
