Brrrrr what's everyone up to? keeping warm I hope ;)

Kira went for a lesson today where she was her usual amazing self, we had fun playing with collected canter and then bringing the half steps back on the spot. A lightbulb has turned on for her and suddenly a few things have fallen into place. So excited to see what we can do next year.

In the meantime we have a couple of tests at Summerhouse tomorrow and will then batten down the hatches to just train on a bit.

Salty is going to arena hire tomorrow morning, our yard has now implemented a new rule about leaving the jumps out 4 days a week which basically makes the school unusable for flatwork so it's time to dig deep again and get out and about to ride off site again. *sigh*. I think she might need spinning round on the lunge first ;)

Then the weekend is taken up with the BD convention. Would love to say hi to any HHOers attending this year :)

have fun everyone

Ooh, I'm going to the convention, although only on Saturday- have been looking forward to it since I bought the ticket! I have really enjoyed going over the last few years, and always take home something I can use with my own horse :)

Having had a dreadful weekend last time, I'm really hoping that this one goes better...

I had meant to jump yesterday at home, but it poured literally all day, and even though the grid was all built and ready, it didn't get used.

Therefore I 'have' to go the RC tonight and jump...

Then have another XC lesson with same instructor on Sat to kill the demons.

Have to say I'm a bit nervous, and I've been fine when jumping recently.

Hope it all goes OK.

My 7yo insists on our jumps being left out permanently MP, wee brat, so it takes a bit of work on my part if I want a clear school.

everything crossed for a weekend of good experiences, Fiona :)

it was not so much of a problem before, but Salty tends to go off for excited buckaroos at least once a day and careering into jumps all over the place is not my idea of fun when out of control... it's a bit dangerous. and I literally can't train Kira with obstacles in the way. I need diagonals and space for sideways esp as it's a short school. Ho hum. I guess she's at the point now where being at a "normal" yard won't work any longer and I will have to rethink things. Perhaps naive of me not to have seen this coming

Blue comes off box rest on Saturday, if the ground's dry enough! Otherwise, it's time to find out if she's ever been taught to lunge. Also, whether I can lunge with three fingers strapped together.

As you are the one (I'm assuming) who is the most inconvenienced by the new rule MP, would YO allow you to pick the days that the school is clear to fit into your own schedule ie Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturday or something.

Then if you had a few good sessions in the week, you could do polework and hacking and competitions the other days...

Good luck pipetty.

Fiona

it's a nice thought, Fiona :) but I understand the deal is done, I have been put firmly in my box just for asking whether it is every week! Never mind! Will enjoy being away for the weekend anyway :)

Max is going to Leahurst which I could do without but hey ho..... I need to know what I am dealing with so I can plan his future.
Amber and Jenny are at a XC clinic.
Katie is viewing a pony. We aren't actively looking yet as we can't really summon up any enthusiasm for pony shopping, but someone who knew about Ginny messaged me the other day about a lovely looking pony a friend of hers has produced that is not yet on the market so we are going to have a look. Katie is lost without a pony so the sooner the better really.

Having had my Mum's scan results today, the cancer is nowhere as bad as it could be and the consultant said 'this is the best case scenario, the one I wished everyone had,' so she's booked in for her op Tuesday - under local anesthetic! She can come home that afternoon! She can ride whenever she wants!

So after getting properly drunk tonight to celebrate, I'm going showjumping on Sunday. She's decided to wait until the op just to make sure she doesn't break an arm or something. Doing 85 and 90, in the cold.

It makes all the work and horse stress seem meaningless.

I've also secretly booked her a Christmas pub hack for 23rd December :-)

That's fabulous news!

Not up to too much this weekend - I will probably just hack on Saturday as I'm booked in for a late lunch with the in laws and in the morning I'm at the gym - my PT has written me a whole new programme as I was complaining about feeling too one sided when I rode, the stronger I have got the worse I have got so I've had a couple of sessions this week to start the ball rolling and will do some more intense work on Saturday. It's all very interesting and I'm finding muscles I didn't know I had!

Sunday I have a few options open to me - SJ, WH (although can't really be bothered to plait) or I might go XC schooling, we'll see

I'm so nervous, I'm doing the BD combined training and I'm bricking it. I used to love jumping but feel the ship has sailed. Missed a lesson last week thanks to the flu, so kinda going at it cold turkey

Good luck for Max at Leahurst AE - having spent nearly two years trying to find out what was wrong with Cam and still not getting a definitive diagnosis, I know how frustrating it is.

Fabulous news Snowfilly!

Cassie and I had a very early, very cold and very foggy start this morning as went over to Parwood - it was worth it though as we've now completed our first ever Winter regional qualification. I have absolutely no expectations of coming anywhere, but feel really proud to have got there. Then this evening I took our 25 years young 13.2 and his relatively new sharer to their third PC rally - he's loving getting out and about again. Tomorrow I head to Gloucestershire for a weekend at the BD convention with my non horsey (but appreciative of horses) Mum. We're staying in one of the local hotels so it's a good opportunity for a catch up, but also get to do what I want to do as well!!

Have a great weekend everyone - keep safe and enjoy, whatever you are up to.:)

Good luck everyone competing and taking ponies to vets.

Amazing news snowfilly, really pleased for you and your mum!

I've got the day off tomorrow so will be hacking my two as long as the freezing fog from today doesn't make a reappearance and the roads don't stay icy all day. If not then I will probably have some exciting schooling sessions as some horses have moved into the field that borders my school - I merrily hopped on Arty in the dark this morning in -5 degree temps and had two galloping horses intermittently poking their heads through the hedge . To be fair she was really very good for such a green youngster. She had every excuse to act like a twit and all she did was go round at was go round at warp speed with her ears up my nose, and she settled well after about 10 mins. Dabs has much more of a love for drama, so I should think he will be more ridiculous about it

Then on Saturday I'm going to the BD convention too . Really excited as I've never managed to go before. Will try to write a bit up as have really enjoyed reading write ups from HHOers in other years. But I can't write and listen at the same time unfortunately, so will all be from memory (apologies in advance).

Have loads of jobs to do about the place on Sunday.

Have fun everyone!

Congrats on the regional qualification niki!

Thank you!! It might not be a place at the next Olympics, but like many others, I'm a one horse rider and my passion has to fit in along with family and other commitments. Making progress is such a rewarding feeling. :)

Re: the BD convention - if anyone is going on their own and would like company, feel free to join me and my mum! I wonder whether HHO people, who wish to identify as HHO people, should congregate in one area? ;)

Well done niki that’s really impressive.

That yard rule seems a bit off to me and quite unusual ime. Do you have a lot of jumpers on your yard MP?

Just had our last trail ride at the ranch in Arizona. Having a quiet afternoon then we are off to Vegas for a long weekend for a very different change of pace. I may do a proper report when we’re back but we’ve had a fab time here. Most fun was the barrel racing and team penning (herding cows into a small pen) both were awesome.

It took me a few days and lessons to get the hang of western riding, and they swapped me onto a quieter horse, but it’s been so much fun pretending to be cowboys and trekking round the hills near tombstone, just like Wyatt Earp - not!

Not technically weekend but had a lesson last night with a new instructor and feel like a lot of what I've been doing has clicked into place, had some lovely strides of really nice contact, very bitty and not consistent yet but it's given me a little kick up the arse to start asking a bit more of him, he's definitely ready!

Pairs dressage to music on Sunday for our yard fun day - my first attempt at test writing and music editing so could be very interesting. Denzel hasn't seen his or the other rider's costume yet so could be bouncing around like a loon (or based on his experience with tarpaulin there could be some chunks missing by the time we've finished!)

Really pleased to read that SF, and what a nice surprise to book that hack!

Chilli went out for an arena hire again on Wednesday afternoon and she was really well behaved. Mum enjoys our trips out too, I've attached a pic of her with Chills in the middle of giving her a pep talk about not being naughty. :p

She schooled really well last night too, I remembered to actually shorten my reins and surprise surprise everything felt better!! Today is a day off for Chill, then Saturday I think I'll hack or maybe run through our tests for Sunday. Got the day off work so heading out for our first tests since I buggered my leg back at the start of summer. So long as we get round them in one piece and she keeps a lid on her behaviour I will be so pleased. Hoping to do some Quest next year so just wanting to keep on getting out and about.

I'm trying a new technique because of how well he jumped on Sunday after a week off from jumping and haven't jumped this week in preparation for this coming Sunday - it's actually harder than I thought, obviously i'm starting to enjoy this jumping malarkey! We shall see if it has any effect - as I said it's only 70 so not exactly taxing for him.
