Weekend plans :D

Pony shopping for me and Izzy. NSEA SJ for Katie. Amber still on box rest, boo hiss. But on a cheerier note, Jenny's xrays were completely clear - no bony changes. And she has been sold to a close friend for her 8 year old daughter. Sold with a huge discount and without a vetting, knowing she failed on flexions and needs remedial farriery and to keep an eye on that foot. My friend will offer her the perfect home and we will still see her all the time so we could not be happier.

so glad things worked out for Jenny @Ambers Echo xx

We are hiring a lovely BS course tomorrow, filler heavy so hoping Rocky has his brave pants on ;) but will be fun!
My partner is taking us and we just bought a lovely DSLR camera, I convinced him he needed it .... to take better photos of us at shows :D so will hopefully get some nice sunny pictures too which his always a bonus!

Good luck to those competing, hope everyone has a good weekend x

I could not be prouder of little Jenny. We assumed she would be too much for the child but she has really come on this summer, started cantering and jumping off the lead rein and even did the 50cm ODE at Eland on her own.

So we decided to just pop her on Jenny and see what happened. I warned her that Jenny would go quite fast and not to worry, just to sit back and keep asking her to slow and bring her on a circle. She has a lovely balanced seat and nice quiet hands.

We took her to a local SJ arena and Jenny was an angel. She WALKED. Never really seen her walk so calmly before! She trotted at a normal pace. She made no effort to go faster. Then she trotted round a full set of 40/50cm jumps. We popped them up to 60 and added in the fillers and I warned the child that she would canter on the approach and just to sit quietly with soft hands and bring her back to trot afterwards. Well Jenny trotted in sweetly, cantered the last 2 strides and came straight back to trot every time. It was becoming obvious that Jenny knew she had a little one on board and was just looking after her. She then walked, trotted and cantered in a large open field including walking and trotting calmly after the first canter. Again Jenny was just perfect. What an amazing pony. She made me and my friend get a bit tearful watching her tootling along when we know how whizzy she normally is. What a fab partnership those 2 are going to make!

That’s fab re Jenny AE, and nice that you will be able to see her.
Ouch about the concussion Asha, hope you are feeling better.
Michen - am impressed that you get up so early to ride. As a teenager I loaned an Arab that grew up in a field of cows and mooed at them.

I had a mid week jumping lesson. We were working on rhythm, with me shouting out the striding “1, 2, 3 etc” and keeping the rhythm regular. (In particular mr H should not slam on the breaks when passing the instructor in the vain hope of getting a treat....and should not accelerate at the jumps as he is having fun...😂). Instructor was pleased and felt there was better control than at previous lesson.
Regular lesson on Saturday, entered in eventers derby on Sunday - when weather is forecast to change - heavy rain 😭 . As I had to withdraw from same venue a month ago due to torrential rain and ground being too slippery for us barefoot I don’t want to lose entry fees again 😐
Have a good weekend everyone

How lovely is that!! You could see how much of a genuine fun pony she was when your daughter had her.
So glad you can keep in touch and the new little rider can grow with Jenny!:)

She would have been my 14yr old self's dream pony xx

Oh, great news about Jenny, she sounds like an absolute gem. And ouch to all the human sick notes - get well soon.

I have a hoon round stubble fields planned for tomorrow (hoping horse is better behaved than last time...).
Then a lesson on Sunday - really starting to love riding my new boy. I’m getting used to the extra power, and we are both in better balance with each other. So excited for the future with him.
Can’t wait to get my trailer back from being refurbished so we can get out and about.

so pleased you've had a happy outcome AE :)

We had a great lesson this morning, just what the doctor ordered as Darcy has been a prize idiot this week after a few days off... I was waiting for his halo to slip, and then it did and he forgot everything he'd ever learned and reverted to being a racehorse! So it was a relief to have a very studious horse today, back to trying his hardest :)
I had thought we hadn't really progressed enough to make it worth taking him for a lesson but really I needed to be told to make it happen instead of not addressing the issues face on. Very pleased with him today, by the end he was stretching in trot and doing all his school figures in a settled rhythm. He was also quiet on arrival and didn't sweat on the journey so we're making progress on all fronts :)

Smiley sunshine horse

I am boiling on a beach holiday! Managed to sneak away from the other half for 3 hours of horsey time yesterday and had an amazing ride from beach to mountains.

Whilst I am relaxing my boy is being schooled by my instructor for a week and a half as pretty much soon as I land I am off for a walking holiday in the Lakes...regionals for team quest is 4 days after I get back!

Be really interesting to get on him again. I have a lesson between sun and walking holiday and then she is riding him twice more. Never had anyone do more than the odd sit to show him something we both arent quite getting, so I am very curious how he will be! Pics my friend took of the 1st ride look promising. :)

I'm so pleased for you AE.... Jenny is as always a total star.

Enjoy your hols chippers and Thehairyone x x

I had two fab hacks yesterday and today, with lots of stubble today, and I also did first clip of the year, just a bib and belly for the two ponies as they are still out.

Fionn isn't keen on cows, especially when the bullocks all charge up to the fence.

He snorts like an Arab stallion 😂😂😂

I am having a lesson tomorrow! It's been a very long time since I had one which wasn't a group training session but we seriously need to improve our flat work. It should be very interesting and I'm looking forward to it. Tamba however is unlikely to be impressed!

Boggle spam. I’m so bloody proud of this horse, he’s come such a long way. I can’t believe that I can get on him bareback for a blast down the beach having thought I’d need to sell him for being too sharp.

Couldn’t have more trust in him now! My second horse of a lifetime

We went jumping in the sunshine this morning. Had a couple of poles - still kicking myself for checking coming into 7 - so no placings but Fleur felt great. ☺️

Thinking we might move up after SHOYs next weekend.

Have my first lesson booked with Charlie Hutton on Monday so really looking forwards to that. Hope Raz isn’t too spooky 🙈

We had a super morning at schools jumping...

Daisy and F jumped a lovely double clear and he rode the double really well (she was goggling at two toddlers digging up gravel with toy tractors just outside the ring)...

And I saw lots of PC friends, and we had a lovely early lunch in the cafè before we came home...

Weather forecast is awful for tomorrow, so I'm really not sure if I'll get to my hunter trials 😭

Glad you had a good time 😀
It’s chucking it down here and I'm due to go eventers derby this afternoon - can’t decide whether to write off the entry fee again(!) or to drive and hour and 3/4 only to write off the entry fee again! 😭

Did not have a good day at the MCI GB champs as unfortunately while warming up another competitor was trying to lead 2 horses at the same time to the stables. Managed to lose control of BOTH horse which came galloping into the warm up and crashed into me and my horse and then for about 10 minutes galloped around, bucked etc around me on a 15m circle until someone was able to catch them! I managed to keep my horse mostly together but that upset her (as it would most horses!) So my first test was okay but retired my 2nd. Could have been so dangerous if I had fallen or we had got kicked and now I'm £70 down grrr. The lady was offered help to lead one too and she turned them down!

That's really horrid for you shortstuff99! As you say it could have ended really badly for you. Can you ask the organisers for at least a partial refund? A horse got out of control in the show ring in a class I was in and I received a really bad kick to my foot, decided not to risk it again!

Sounds grim SS sorry about that.

Had a lovely day out at Blenheim yesterday. Thx lexi for the tickets! First visit and I really liked the more relaxed atmosphere, plenty of time to walk around, get some food and drink, watch the show jumping afterwards, do a bit of shopping, and catch up with friends.

That sounds scary for you! I'm very lucky that nothing too horrible happened but I think I might send a note to the organisers to maybe suggest not allowing double leading of horses or at least a heads up.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Shortstuff, that sounds like a horrible scenario to find yourself in!
Quiet one here, well, quiet from a horse point of view. I feel like I’ve been running round like a lunatic this week and I think I’ve overdone it a bit because I’m not feeling great this weekend.

Horses have been worked as normal but it’s pouring down today so they might have gained a day off if they are soaked when they come in.

We had a last minute trip to Vale View to play around yesterdays arena eventing course.

Took a good 35 minutes to settle and breathe properly then he was fantastic.

The pink fence is 90cm and he made it feel so easy.

Oh and if you look carefully, you can see the splint on my left hand. Delightful creature was being super sharp last weekend and dislocated my thumb. All the ligaments are done in it!

Ah I’m really glad you enjoyed it!

From boiling in the sun yesterday to getting drenched today, it’s been quite a change! Had a fab couple of days volunteering though 😄

Sounds like some great weekends.

ShortStuff that sounds terrible! It's lucky your horse is levelheaded or that could have been far worse.

I took the big cob back to the vet on Thursday. The vet said he was much improved and to start riding. I rode during the assessment and he did feel good, so I left feeling positive. Got home, popped him on the lunge just to have a look and he still doesn't look right to me! Yard owner agrees. So we are going to slowly rehab and see what happens. My instructor rode on Friday and said he was super wonky but got better. I rode today and he felt fairly normal. Not lame, just not as powerful, which is fair enough. We can build from there.

little cob seems largely adjusted to his new footwear so I rode him too. He felt great yesterday and tanked off with me... Today he felt good but a little off in the left fore. It was very very subtle . The farrier did say it may take a couple of rounds to shoeing for him to adjust fully so he perhaps needs more time.

In between I've been playing on the school horses again. Lovely Connemara gelding yesterday and a cob mare today who looks like a smaller version of my big cob. Both lovely ❤️

Fergs and I were having a right laugh at archery today (mostly at my running commentary of my own incompetence!). Mr Legendary Coach decided to push the limits of my mental ability until I nearly had a breakdown, but without actually causing a full on mental breakdown, which I didn't know was possible... Usually I just cry at the first sign of trouble  Nice to know we can do stuff and not die...

JFTD, I wonder if you have read The Byerley Turk by Jeremy James. This is the (possibly somewhat fictional ) story of how the first thoroughbred was bred, born, trained and later came to this country. His groom (seyis) from birth was a descendant of the greatest tribe of horseman archers and the descriptions of how he can shoot from horseback are extraordinary. You need to learn how to make your own arrows too!

No, but I've just added it to my reading list, it sounds epic!

I'm not sure any arrows I made could be trusted in flight though :p
