Good luck Zaminda, can't wait to hear all about it... Will be asking for advice soon as entered child and I in a 32km pleasure ride on 4th Sept...

Get well soon ponyparty and JFTD × I lost most of July with my chest infection....

Good luck Connie showing lindylouanne... I love it.

I've to feed child lunch now and take him to his adventure camp this afternoon, then come home and start bathing the gorgeous pony ready for this evening. Bbq followed by jumping lesson 8-9pm.

nope, medial branch of the SDFT right where it attaches on the pastern. Not a very big lesion but definitely there. According to the lameness guru at my practice it's really unusual to do just that and nothing else, and very very unusual to not be even slightly sore on it. Trust Kira to be a weirdo! She is such a toughie. She has no idea what all the fuss is about!

It's one of those times that it has paid off, being a horse-hypochondriac ;) everyone told me I was making a drama out of nothing but I know her legs and I knew it wasn't right. If we had just carried on then she would probably have ended up with a bigger injury and a less positive prognosis. Now we just have to manage the box rest, might have to import a field-potato back to the yard to keep her company so I can still ride Darcy cos she's not at all keen on him leaving the stable at the moment.

Well spotted MP...

You and sportsmanB have both picked up minor injuries in your horses recently that may have got much worse if left.

Well done both of you x x

Fiona

MP thank goodness you know Kira so well, speedy recovery.
I hope the weather stays good for everyone who is out and about competing or having lessons, doesn't feel like August does it?
I got Rose home on Monday, hacked her on Tuesday and this is her on Wednesday. She improves so quickly when she's away so it's money well spent and I am now completely recovered! She looks a completely different horse and carries herself so much better. 68472263_412125966075732_7096665112760549376_n(1).jpgWe are doing poles this evening and I'm hoping to run through the DTM on Saturday in a big arena

You will have great fun! I think people over estimate how much they need to do, although maybe I'm wrong as I do a lot of shorter intensive work!

We will be trying to get the ponies as fit as possible..... In the arena mainly, but have a couple of canter spots on hacks, and will box to the forest at the weekends...

Good luck all! Hope the weather holds for everyone 🤞

MP and Sportsman B how rubbish - fingers crossed all goes as planned for recoveries.

Have the best time Fiona!!

She looks lovely Oldie48 :)

This weekend we will be trying to carry on the momentum from our absolutely stellar hack on Wednesday night, new route with sheep, goats and a dairy farm and he was foot perfect. Even did gates, held them open for others, and was in front for a little bit. We might also attempt a little jump while the arena is soft after the rain, or if not we'll at least have some time in the arena while others are jumping so we can practice working in around others who are going much faster than we are!

I feel your pain Milliepops - new boy has broken himself and we’re looking at 3 months of restricted turnout before we reassess 😕
Had to retire one a few months ago and my big chestnut’s hock has gone again so no jumping for him for at least 6 months until we see if it fuses.

On a happier note, new girl got her shoe back on yesterday and I now have a saddle that fits (still not sure if she approves but 🤞🏻 she will once it rides in) so we can crack on. 🙂

Blue’s off to Morris tomorrow for our first Newcomers in about 6 months. He was really good in our lesson this morning so feeling quietly confident we’ll get round without issues.

Good luck to everyone who’s out competing

Ooh have they? We’re meant to be fence judging there tomorrow and Sun... must see if I’ve had an email!

They have just cancelled he whole event . Gutted as we love fence judging at somerford

Edited to add - just read about Kira , sorry to here that MP. Love reading your posts. Hope she’s good to go soon x

Most horses will cope with a steady 32k as long as it's not hilly! I rarely ride for more than an hour except competing.

32k is only about 20 miles after all. Unless you're belting round, you shouldn't have any issues - have fun!

Sorry about Kira MP - a good reason why everyone should check their horses legs every day!

The Shetland show is going ahead! Woo! So the Wee Coloured Job is scrubbed, painted, mane tamed and rugged! It takes me an hour to get him sorted! Any of the others (with the exception of Gray) takes 1/2 hour! Because they are normal colours and don't need painted 😂😂😂

Have a great camp Fiona, are you staying in lorry or tent or ?
Sorry about Kira MP, good that you caught it early.
Hope your horse heals too Northern (love your palomino and the view between the ears too!) and SportsmanB - at least a month isn’t so long.
Sorry you have the lurgie PP, mr R and I both had it too.
How exciting about holiday Bernster!
Good luck Z - that sounds amazing (I’d be knackered after 20 k!)
Good luck showing LL and EKW
Oldie - Rose looks fab and glad you are back on board.
We have flatwork session tomorrow and entered into Frenchfields Eventers Derby on Sunday in the 85 cm (which is like a lite be90 course) assuming wind isn’t to bad.
Have a good weekend everyone

The Wee Coloured Job did good! I may as well not have bothered getting his legs clean though 😂😂😂

He won his standard coloured stallion class, followed up with the winning the Open standard coloured championship before standing reserve overall coloured champion to a lovely bay mare.

In the Shetland Pony world anything that isn't black is deemed coloured.

We brought home the Lakeland Lightning Salver too.

Lance has been unbeaten in his Shetland/M&M classes this year. I am not sure if I will have him out at the Caledonian Championships yet or put him away for the year. We shall see!

Hope everyone has had a good Saturday :)
Mine has been pretty uneventful but in a good way! Think I have managed to get the right set up for K's box rest. She has suddenly got really attached to Darcy so if I took him away to ride she was charging round her stable... not quite what she should be doing. And turning him out would have been impossible.
So Millie has come to stay for a bit to keep her company, and Darcy has moved to a stable round the corner out of sight ;)
This evening everyone is quiet and happy (well, Millie is a bit annoyed that her freedom has been curtailed but she'll get over it!)

Anyway, Darcy has been picked up and left so many times it feels like he has stalled a bit, but today we got back to it and hopefully we'll be able to carry on without interruptions now :)
Almost looks like a proper horse here (only cos you can't really see his bony bum :p )

Well done Bernster, that is an incredible jump and as MP says knees up.

I have spent this afternoon making sure everything is ready for tomorrow, definitely doing the in hand class with B but not sure about the ridden yet. I rode him this afternoon for the first time since his attack of very mild laminitis and he seemed happy enough on a soft surface but I don't know about riding him on hard ground.

Took Blue to Morris to attempt our first newcomers in a couple of months - managed a double clear but was pretty slow so no placing today.

Thought it was a pretty full-up 1.10m so I’m pleased that I remembered to ride forwards. no dodgy distances and no extra strides this week 😅

Knackered now as I was on the yard at 0830 and we didn’t get home until after 1830. I’ll definitely sleep tonight 😴

Great pic Bernster

We had our third lesson today with our new dressage trainer, she is starting to push us which is great. We did our first ever canter half passes and M did so well, I think he enjoys his sideways. We also polished the shoulder in a bit which felt much better.

Our canter walk and walk canter transitions were useless, hes done much better in the past but they just weren't working today so we finished off doing exercises to improve them and by the end they were much better.

We practised a bit of give and retake in trot and canter, in canter they were good but in trot not so much. Homework for the next couple of weeks is more give and retake, improving the canter to walk and walk to canter transitions.

Pics aren't great quality but do show a bit of the canter HP, trot HP, some counter canter and normal canter

Dressage show tomorrow

Sorry to hear about Kira MP, but Darcy is lovely😍

I’m currently lying in bed recovering from being stable manager for two very soggy pc camps! Little sister also took Harry who was fab for her and has survived his first xc after his injury. Apparently she is going to event him now 🤦🏽‍♀️

Off to Talland this afternoon for a weeks work experience so very excited 😀😀😀

Ooh good luck at talland showjumpingharry- let us know how you get on.

Our dressage today was great, so pleased with M. We changed our warm up a bit which worked well. My aim in the first test (N37a) was to focus on relaxation, it worked well in the trot but the canter work was a bit more difficult and he was pulling a little after the medium canter. Our score of 65.something was very fair and the test as a whole was better than last weeks first test.

On to N38 and he felt really great, he was so lovely and soft and on my aids beautifully for most of the test, the odd moment of coming above the bridle but the majority was great. 69.something and our highest score since we did an intro. Some very encouraging remarks from the judge with 3 x 8s for 15m trot circles, FWLR and medium walk.

So proud of M, he was just on it :D20190818_165502.jpg20190818_165439.jpg20190818_165408.jpg20190818_165306.jpg
