Weekend plans for last weekend in July?

Off to a local show with young connie to do some inhand classes. His second outing. He's backed and going well but it's less stressful to do first "parties" inhand. Previous one he stood on my shoe just before we went in and tore the sole off, so emergency string repair required! Then got attacked by horseflies so wouldn't stand for the judge. Managed a second in our second class of M&M though as he is a very pretty boy. Hoping he will be more relaxed tomorrow.

Not very good at taking photos of our outings! Fabulous sj lesson yesterday - new venue and jumps. I can see the way forward if that makes sense, and it’s great to know that, if we keep going like this, we should be able to do a steady, competent round at some point in the future! I think we’re both better in a solo lesson. He doesn’t get attached to the other horses. I don’t spend so long feeling sick and going ‘off the boil’ during breaks!

Had a stressful detour on the return journey though, with a flashing red oil light which google told me was a big problem. Got into the nearby services and had an hour of anxiety with breakdown recovery, rescue horsebox on its way, friend heading over with hay, and generally being worried about Bertie in the back (he was a good boy but did look a bit anxious).

KBIS breakdown and equine rescue services (who they use for the horse recovery) were amazing, great experience. As it turned out, in all other vehicles that warning light is a problem. In mine, it’s to tell me it’s overdue a service ?‍♀️!!! Or more accurately, that my mechanic forgot to reset the service light when he did it a few months back. So off we set again, getting home slightly later than planned and in need of a big drink (me, not him).

All the best LEC.
Some fab reports and look forward to Rara‘s driving report. I don’t generall post much re competing as I show but yesterday had a lesson with a show jumping trainer who was doing lessons at nearby yard. No jumping involved as that ship long sailed for me but really good flatwork session. Really helped soften the horse and help make me think about things to tidy up.

Bog went to clear round yesterday for a 1m, he was fab. I put his old jockey on him as wanted him to have a nice confidence giving round, she hasn’t ridden him in years and found him epic!

Rode and led this am, the boys are so good until the last ten minutes where they start bickering like children, start swiping at eachother and generally being idiots ?

I want to gallop that field!

The ground is quite hard here too, but in the forest there is still a long hill that was good for a trot and gallop. When we got to the fields we found a spot that wasn't too bad, so went for a short gallop before heading home. The only good thing about the hard ground and riding on some roads, is that it sort of helps his hooves trim a bit because they grow quite fast. He's such a gentleman to gallop though and has gotten sooo much better at solo hacking. He seemed to have a good time.

His mane is rather wild and I'm desperately trying to prevent him from rubbing it out. I'm doing better than last year but it's still sparse and broken in some areas.

The only reason I was able to ride without our usual zebra suit was because it was very windy...the hoeseflies are definitely still here otherwise. Sometimes I feel as though they get more vicious before they die off.

We’ve not had horseflies too bad at all this time around which is good as neither horse nor I do well with them.

Had a good pootle yesterday with hacking chum and son, this morning I boxed over to a new friend and the original plan was to ride to a ford, have a play and return. B was enjoying it so much that we went on another mile to a v long ford of over 400 yards, cars no longer allowed, and had some lovely trotting and splashing in it, then went in to her local common and made a round trip, coming back through both fords again.
Had intended to be about an hour, but was around 2 and covered 7 miles ?
Excellent fun ?

very mundane weekend compared to many but productive all the same. Got loan horse up ramp into the lorry and figuring out how to turn around to walk off again :p that was HARD for him to get his little brain around, as far i can work out he's always reversed out of trailers so his go-to reaction is to rush off backwards. Very pleased that he let me show him a different way. We still have a lot of work to do before he'll be comfortable actually *going* anywhere but it's a milestone. It always makes me a bit anxious having a non-loader in case you need to whisk them to horspital.

Kira and oldest potato Twiggy went to the nursery paddock to munch off the only green grass in about 10 square miles! they had a little treat this afternoon too :) what a life...

Well I didn’t manage to ride yesterday. I did just manage to stay upright for the farrier but I had to do my cousins 2 as well and the small white one was definitely a little too much with that hangover.
On the other hand, the wedding was amazing, the band was brilliant and was well worth the hangover.

went a solo hack this morning and tali was really good. I worked a lot on what I was doing while I ride. Last time we were out she jogged a fair bit on the way home so I was practicing asking her to walk using my seat and voice. Today she really started to get it and several times I didn’t even need to speak to her. We also had a super gallop along the beach. We were heading home the way so she’s usually a bit faster but she was really controlled and having a good nosey about. She didn’t seem in any hurry to get home today. It was just a standard hack really but it’s left me on a high.

Apart from the jumping on Friday and a couple of quiet hacks, my biggest achievement has been packing for me and the horse. Mr Red has been given a list of instructions for Rigsby. He doesn't really need instructions but it made me feel like |I had contributed to Rigsby's care!

I *think* H and I are ready for camp!

Bob decided he didn't really fancy Burgham as it always rains there so it was just the little ex racer doing his first novice!

Had a great time and it didn't rain too much!
Nice to catch up with lots of friends and most of the top names there for the 4*.
Very pretty ?

We hired an arena to get some confidence back after the clinic last weekend and it went really well :) at first I was so nervous so was jumping very small but we ended up feeling much more confident in each other
Buzzy jump.jpg

Think this was about 90 which is the biggest i've jumped since about October last year! It was only the one jump and not a course but I was pleased. We did it a few times as well.

Thanks to a couple of videos taken as well I can see that I can get a bit flappy when i'm not sure about something and then we have a stop but if I sit quietly and don't push then we're all good. Not sure why it's taken me so long to have this revelation! I think because i'm so used to him stopping that a 'slower' canter I don't feel will get us over them but actually it's fine. We did this jump above absolutely fine the first time, then I came back around and got a bit flappy trying to get more from him and he stopped, came back around sitting quietly and he jumped it fine...who knew :D
Still i'm very pleased with Buzz, he felt great and we both had loads of fun.

Chippers, I’m just the same! I get all flappy and push, as I almost feel like they need more to jump even the teeny weeny ones I jump. I can’t get my head around just sitting, holding, and letting them do the job. The best fix at the moment is that I have to look completely away from the fence the last few strides, that way I don’t interfere and we do a lovely tidy jump!

It's quite the revelation :D I might try that next time!

Finally got round to trying out my bare back saddle pad. I wasn’t sure wether to ride in the field or hack but decided just to nip to the beach. It’s our most used route so she’s confident with that route and we can get there without going on the road. She was pretty unsure to start but she got used to it and settled nicely. She jogged a few times and it was far easier to sit to than I thought and smoother than her walk but I wasn’t quite brave enough to ask for a trot yet. Next time. And I didn’t fall off ??
